This was a horrible (how to) video. Cutting to deep. Hanging up the trees into others.

It wasn't a how to hinge cut video. It was identifying which species are better suited for hinge cutting and discussing why.

Don’t underestimate the potential of small acreage with today’s high prices. With just 10 acres I can reliably harvest deer every year. If you have created the best habitat and diverse food sources during hunting season time you will vacuum game to your parcel from surrounding area. Keep the hunt pressure carefully managed too.

We bought two farms last year. One to keep and one to develop into lots for sale. The profit on the second farm will mostly pay for the first farm. After doing the habitat improvements on the first farm it will be worth possibly twice what I paid for it in 5 years. There are many ways to skin a cat.

I appreciate your video. It's gonna help alot of people. The only thing, I heard wrong was how you will keep the traps scent free. Fella, your scent even if you have rubber gloves on will be all over the area. Where you kneel, where you put scent and gland lure out. From your clothing. You cannot even put a type A suit on and stop human scent from being around your traps. So those just getting into trapping, don't let that part discourage you.

Won’t leaving the invasive shrubs standing or laying in the field make your herbicide application for the cool season grasses difficult? Assuming you will be using a boom sprayer. Sounds like a lot of driving around and dodging the shrubs. Probably leading to less coverage on the target grasses.

As I mentioned, I do have 75 acres of pasture just as you show in this video in upstate New York, unfortunately, New York and the deck refused to return. My phone calls on prescribed burning. That would be very beneficial to many parts of the northeast, but they still are trueto do it. The US has a whole must embrace prescribed burning to stop such things as California from continuing to happen.
@Whitetail_Properties4 күн бұрын
We agree. Prescribed fire is not only beneficial for improving wildlife habitat. It is also very important for fire mitigation.

This is very interesting, i have about 75acers of pasture just like this in upstate ny. Some of it will go back to hay and food plots. But some i wanted to keep like this, more native without losing to invasive species and mature woodlot

Great video, and something I am currentyl working on on my property. I have about an acre opened up so far just by cutting down sweetgums. I plan to treat the stumps with herbicde to keep them from coming back and burn. My question on the timing is this. How much time between the burn and when my does start to fawn is needed? How fast does this natural browse regrowth happen? So just say my does start to fawn the middle of March. When would be the optimal date to burn so the timing correlates?
@Whitetail_Properties10 күн бұрын
Great questions! If you do a dormant season burn, you'll start to have good growth at the beginning and throughout the growing season. If your fawn are dropping in mid march, they will be a little bit early on the regrowth, they will benefit greatly from the browse and cover that will start to come on in late spring through the summer. Next year, it will be great fawning cover for does after having a full growing season. It will also be good brood habitat for turkeys this year with the small regrowth coming on during nesting.

@@Whitetail_Properties thanks for the reply. I plan on getting started burning asap. One more question. I have noticed in my old growth woods having a layer of dry leaves and debris on top and then underneath I have a layer of old wet and decaying leaves. I am doubting my fire will get hot enough to burn off both layers to get to clean ground. Are 2 initial burns neccessary sometimes or what is the best plan of attack? Thanks for the help.
@Whitetail_Properties9 күн бұрын
@@Camdagreat01 If conditions are right you should have no problem carrying a fire through old growth timber. There should be plenty of fuel. Shoot for 35-50% humidity, 8-12 mph wind, make sure you haven't had any precipitation in a week or so and you should be good! We have a bunch of videos on prescribed fire that can help you out as well!

@Whitetail_Properties14 күн бұрын
Depends on your goals/objectives for the property. If it is full of invasives that might be hard to treat. An aerial spraying application might be good to reset it. Follow up with prescribed fire. You could also do it mechanically and follow up with fire. Just depends on how much time/money you want to spend.. We have tons of longer format videos that would be helpful on our channel!
