NIO's concept of battery swapping is the most logical and most efficient. IF there was agreement amongst all the EV producers to standardise battery dimensions, implementing battery swapping stations would increase EV's sales exponentially.
@SonderZenseiАй бұрын
Agreed. Regardless of brand they could all have swapping stations at dealerships and service centres in addition to chargers. EV manufactures should also simplify the driving experience. Technology wise, they are throwing everything bar the kitchen sink into new vehicles. It's tech overload. A medium sized, simple to drive, vehicle with a swap-able battery would be perfect.

I heard that Waymo uses remote operators to oversee the cars, taking over in emergencies. Or was that Cruise?
@VegasVaron2 ай бұрын
@@loungelizard836 Good question. I don’t know for sure. Regardless, Waymo is light years ahead of Tesla with respect to “true” self-driving cars/taxis. If you look at a photo of a Waymo car, it has censors all over. Any car manufacturer that wants to produce self-driving vehicles will have to redesign their cars to accommodate all censors necessary for all weather conditions.

A solution for a problem that doesn't exist anymore. I only use Superchargers for road trips and I haven't spent more than 20 minutes at a Supercharger. Barely enough time for a bathroom break, get a snack, and stretch a little. Seemed like 5 minutes. But for my daily drive, I charge in my garage. Superchargers are very cheap to install and there are 21,000 in the US and growing at 4000/yr.

Most pollution happens in poor and developing countries where electricity is scarce and black outs are common. About 4 Billion people live in these countries. Electric cars will never be successful there as there is no continuous 24 hour electricity supply. That is why electric cars will fail as a whole. As a niche they will always have a place.

I like the fact that you can swap the battery easily. That's as it should be. It's not a major drama to get a new battery for your phone, why should your car be any different.
@RUHappyATM7 ай бұрын
That would mean a design standard for EVERY cars/trucks/buses etc. And the myriad styles and shapes of these vehicles. I seriously doubt the car companies would agree. Further, try finding a battery changer out the back of Woop Woop
@yggdrasil90397 ай бұрын
@@RUHappyATM To some extent true. Actually the issue that's been highlighted about battery swapping is the integration of the BMS and the cooling system. That would require a uniform code for all vehicles using the particular swap, though I suppose this is no different to the analogy of finding the right battery for your phone. Still, a lot trickier for a car. That said, within one model it should be a lot LOT easier than it currently is - and a LOT cheaper - to swap your old battery for a new one. I'm thinking of the recent Hyundai story.
