There’s a little silver lever on the right top. You just need to move the position and the ribbon will lift when you hit a key.

@@devinreese1397 Cool thx. Out of all the old typewriters I own none with the "magic" tab feature work, except for setting one at a time. Only my Corona Sterling that lets me flip a hatch on the back and allows me to manually pull and place metal tabs have allowed me to place multiple margins.

We had that problem. The spacer has to be off the zero setting but it can get caught and not actually advance the spacing.

It did that with mine but I tightened the black knob to the left of it and it worked just fine

these typewriters are junk.

Mine doesn't seem to charge either and it is supposedly solar charge... Let me know what you ended up doing? I bought it at bjs but I threw away the plastic packaging.

How do you like the typewriter?

Dear Amanda, this sounds like a problem with the carriage draw band or carriage mainspring. A common problem with typewriters. You should look at the right side of the carriage and look under, you should see a string if that is missing or frayed than it is probably the draw band. But if you see the string intact than it is probably the mainspring that is broken if this is the case than you should look up videos on how to repair. But be warned as this is a complicated process that involves (Depending on the model.) basically disassembling your machine piece by piece.

@@thomaschambers1731 if your draw band is broken you can fix it with 10 pound or higher fishing line. I used 20 pounds and got my machine working. Also you can join the typewriter maintenance group on Facebook. These people are very knowledgeable and will tell you everything you need to know.
