A horror movie couldn’t hope to recreate the growing sense of dread built here. The lack of dialogue and the windy, bleak and depressing backdrop.

Am I the only who finds the distant train horns (present throughout the show) a tad unsettling? It makes scenes like this all the more haunting.

I was just about to say. Same with the dogs but more from the wind. It's like they are actually in a cemetery. Those vacants with the lack of people/community around really fills it in that it's a graveyard. imagine just standing there feeling the wind and looking at those houses know a bunch of people had their last moments in them.

If this was any other dumbed down show when Lester was feeling the nails they would have Hercs stupid head floating saying "They had a nailgun" just to hold the audiences hand. I love that the wire gives its audience credit and makes you connect the dots yourself

The vacents were a terrible idea. They were city property, so the police needed no warrants to search, no area of possible reversible error.

I just discovered The Wire and quickly fell for it.Honestly, Lester is one of my favorite fictional detectives.Imagine if he was involved in a supernatural case? That would be so interesting !!!

Sad part is that this was filmed on location. No need for props or anything in this scene... these used to be neighborhoods where kids could play out back with their neighbors and not worry about getting shot or dealing with addicts. Sad to see it all go to shit when the people with money fled the city (mostly due to racism) and the homeowners turned into landlords who didn't give a shit about their tenants.
