The music is great, views are great and there is no narrating. This is a gem.

Following the same route that Clint Eastwood's Dirty Harry took with the crooked Lt. Briggs onto the freeway. Noisy, dirty, rust-stained and falling down: RIP the old Embarcadero Freeway! 🥲

That freeway was an eyesore, but it was so much easier to get around back then. Thanks for taking me back. Do you remember how people used to pay for the car behind them at the toll booths on the bridges? Technology doesn't allow these acts of kindness anymore :(

I've lived in the bay area for nearly 45 years and still remember the double decked Embarcadero freeway. Today, I work near the historic SF Ferry building. The Embarcadero blvd. is so much different and open thanks to the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake. Its truly a walkable area with expansive views of the bay, Nob Hill, and Market street. You can still drive too just without a wall of concrete blocking the views.

I drove the Embarcadero Freeway just a couple of times before it was put out of commission by the Loma Prieta earthquake in 1989. The freeway was an awful eyesore, but the view FROM it was fantastic, especially at night.

October 17, 1989 just after 5pm the Embarcadero freeway would collapse during an 6.9 earthquake known as the Loma Prieta, killing more then 40 people that were commuting. I had just just got home that day and parked, as soon as I shut the door of my van it started rocking sideways and the ground started shaking and moving beneath me, telephone poles were rocking back and forth as well, along as the homes that were around me, it was quite warm that evening, many of the homes had their windows open so I heard people screaming and the sound of furniture's etc. falling over as well as inside my home.
