Female calves mean more milk producers. Male calves mean steaks in the freezer.

Mark, Its actually myoglobin nit jhemoglobin that is responsible for meat color range. The more myoglobin the redder thev meat. The red juice that comes out of meat being cooked is not blood but myoglobin. There is next to no blood left in butchered meat. The reason for the light pinknhue of commodity pork is lack of excercise/ movement. Its why wild hogs are so much darker as dark as any beef. They are running rootn etc all day/night. That versus in a feedlot pen inside with enough room to take a few steps and turn around. Concrete floors to better flush. Allow hogs to free graze on pasture or in the woods during acorn season etc and you get a totally different meat. A bit more good not bad, gamey flavor, and deep dark red. Careful feed supplement a bit of feed and you get nice white fat content. The whole bs pig is a white meat is a creation of the pig comnercial industry to increase sales under the completely false campaign still going on but proven wrong even by the large cardiovasvular surgeons research groups. Fat intake is not the cause of vlogged arteries or high ldl. Its sugar and seed oils.

That really stinks. Copper wire and/or pipes help keep algae from happening. I wonder if you can treat the pond with some diluted chlorine? And a solar powered fountain to keep the water moving.
@tentamalaska22 күн бұрын
Build a gravel skirt. Run hot wire completely around the pond. Off set your hot wire across your gravel skirt so the cows wont get in your pond. Greg Judy has some really good videos showing his set up. But with algae, I know nothing about that. Hot weather is hard on small ponds.

Life is merely what you make of it. There will be no shortage of hardships and struggle in life, but what good journey is without them? Have you ever enjoyed a book or a movie without complications and struggle? It’s such a blessing that we get to grow and overcome, every day of our lives. And of course, a good woman and family is the greatest earthly reward of all.

Do you just put the fat in a bag of salt or do you have to completely cover it salt, and do seal the bag?
@bakersgreenacresАй бұрын
The fat needs to be completely encased in salt. I've had better success with open bags, but it works with a sealed bag, too. You want to pull out the moisture and I've found the open bag is better but it does need to be in a clean place then. Good luck to you!

You live in a place that has ticks correct? Im looking to buy a 30-60 acre farm in a state that happens to have ticks. I currently live in a state that doesn't have them. Everything i have been reading online has said to keep your pasture areas and your yard low to keep ticks away from you and your animals. I want to pasture raise them like you are. My question is, do your animals have issues with ticks in that nice tall pasture? And how do you deal with the tick issue?
@bakersgreenacresАй бұрын
We treat our dogs for ticks, but have never had a problem with them on the other farm animals. A tick would have to go some to get through a cow or pig hide! Good luck with your farm!
