Yes, this artwork is incredible. I purchased the first book and was captivated from the start however, I’m not crazy for the characterization. After watching your video, I’m definitely going to reread this first book and perhaps carry on with the series. Innocent won me over a lot more and I plan to continue with that series. Carson from living the line thinks the climber is his best work. I hope the climber gets an English release. I should check my local library to see what they are currently carrying for comics and manga. Thanks for the video.!
@comixrant19 күн бұрын
Oh thanks for watching! I can see how the characterization could turn people away. Mina and the cast do seem to fit into this... mainstream manga type of people now that I think about it. She does have this "I can do it and believe in myself" type of attitude and the others are pure jerk boy bully types (that will be her friends later). But I think there might be a chance Sakamoto is playing those up to flip them around later? I will have to check out that climber book for sure! Thank you for the recommendation (and yes Innocent is totally deep in terms of characterization!). Hit up your local library, I am always in awe to see what each one carries!

I love this video! My feelings about this series and his work in general feels very reciprocated when watching this. I gush over his works starting from "The Climber" and so forth. His manga previous to that weren't as passionate and he himself shared that sentiment. I don't know the extent of your knowledge for Shinichi Sakamoto's work, but he values the reader's imagination and their ability to relate to imagery; hence the absence of onomatopoeia and using visuals to describe things like sounds, smells, feelings, etc. So a lot of the story isn't just said through text. If you wish to know more about who he is as a mangaka, there are two youtube videos about him. One is Naoki Urasawa's Manben and the other one is by archipel. I hope you dive into his works and continue to enjoy his stuff. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
@comixrant6 ай бұрын
Oh! Yes! Thanks for the heads up on those videos! I will definitely check them out! (Urasawa is another super fave of mine, and I really should do an episode to gush over his stuff.) I honestly don't know alot about Sakamoto until just recently when #DRCL has blowing up my instagram feed. I read a few chapters of his "Innocence" (also a crazy intense book!), but I will have to track down his other work! Interesting that he has that view over his early work! As an older artist myself I can relate to what he means, but I also know that I couldn't have 'arrived' to where I am now if not for all the missteps and yeah even 'passion-less' beginnings. Thanks for watching the video and I'm glad to meet a fellow fan!
