Great review, you guys really dug in. Overall great movie. In a way, I think I need to see it again i missed a lot but the cinematography, score, and acting are award-winning. I was disappointed in the depiction and look, of the character Count Orlok. The stash had to go, where did Eggers get that from? Also, we did not need to see a naked Vampire's thing.

My favorite was Kojima. Japanese people are not very direct, they may make an entire video game franchise speak for itself instead. Like a 4th wall breaking experience where in the status quo is a facade of peace through information control vs. unconditional freedom brought about by violence and whether there is freedom from such a dynamic- the game

I actually think Rebirth’s game direction is well deserving of the win. The fact that they were able to take prolly the weakest section from the original game (the entire journey from after leaving Midgar up to the temple of the ancients which is like 3-4 hours of the original game) and turn that all into its own full scaled game with the shear amount of variety and unique elements in its content while innovating the narrative of this part from the original with fully fleshed out and enhanced character writing and moments makes it such a remarkable feat that they were able to accomplish this. In terms of the actual open world content, I 100% understand Ragucci's frustration with the execution of the open world and its overuse on large scale environment check-listing which I can agree at times took away from the actual substance and pacing of the main narrative. But what always resonated with me about the open world is one of the pivotal themes of this game which is the bonds and relationships u develop being the core concept of the narrative, the characters (affinity system + in-depth character writing), the gameplay (synergy abilities), as well as the world of FF7 itself. To me, the open world, the side content, the regions/towns along with all the quirky NPCs, even the minigames added such an extra layer of life and charm that made me feel so immensely attached to this world and these characters that it will hit so much harder in the 3rd game when everything goes to shit and we see the planet, all the regions we explored, all the NPCs we interacted with effectively suffering and dying out, which will make us even more sympathetic to wanting to save the planet and everything and everyone that we've grown so attached to. This is why I think the entire 3rd game will be way more narrative focus in order to tie together all the major plot points that have been built up and have it conclude in a very satisficing manner, which in turn will most likely lead to a much more lenient approach to the side content and the open world by focusing more on discovery and organic exploration (much of the original game's plot REALLY starts picking up right after temple of the ancients anyway which is literally where Part 3 starts). I do think when the 3rd game is out and we're able to look back at not only Rebirth but the entire Remake Trilogy as a whole, I feel we'll be able to fully appreciate the entire package as one whole experience that is so interconnected with each other with its themes and its impact. Part 1 (Remake) - introduce us (or reintroduce for og players) to the characters in a completely new but familiar/nostalgic setting. Part 2 (Rebirth) - heavy focus on the bonds and relationships between the characters and the overall world of FF7. Part 3 (whatever the title will be) - actual meat and bones of the narrative that will conclude and tie together all the major plot points in a very satisficing manner (at least that's the hope lol)
@DelcoNerdNetworkАй бұрын
I agree with your points I just feel like the game is more about "the open world, the side content, the regions/towns along with all the quirky NPCs, even the minigames" it's less about the actually narrative in Rebirth. I hope the 3rd remake is more like Remake. Thanks for the comment and Happy Thanksgiving. - Ragucci
@xheisenberg13Ай бұрын
@@DelcoNerdNetwork 100% fair. I do believe that the 3rd game will have a better balance with the side content to ensure it doesn't overwhelm the actual narrative, especially considering a lot more important shit is going to be happening plot wise for part 3. Although that is just me being optimistic and I guess we just have to wait and see when it comes out. And happy holidays to u and Chris as well 👍

Good conversation. Sad to see this comment section empty I grew up a survival horror junkie. Resident Evil was my first favorite gaming franchise. But silent Hill was always the counter point to it. I'm not even the hugest fan of the entirety of the franchise. I pretty much just like the second and third game. I have a soft spot for the fifth one as well but many people regard it the worst of the series so I just don't talk about it lol Silent Hill 3 was my favorite but two sits right below it and I understand why most people consider it the best one in the franchise. In fact many people consider it not just one of the best horror games ever made but just downright one of the best games ever made. And part of it is this uncanny sense of depression and loneliness along with the rest of the creepy atmosphere and just the story itself I'm always interested to see the opinions of people who never played the originals. Because I think oftentimes people play them and enjoy them and despite in some cases it may possibly be enabling the lack of creative ideas in the industry, I do think remakes absolutely have their place in gaming. Especially something like this where the original game doesn't have any kind of easy way to access it outside of overpaying for an original copy or basically downloading abandoned wear on a computer. If somebody plays something this way for the first time and they enjoy it, who is anybody else to say that it shouldn't exist? What I'll say as a fan of the original, I wouldn't call this the definitive way to play Silent Hill too. But I would say comparing and contrasting the two, you can't go wrong with either one to experience for either the first time or one of many repeat playthroughs. I enjoy playing this version more than the original but it's just because of how spoiled I am at this point by modern gameplay standards. Despite my love for many of those classics survival horror games I'm actually not super attached to fixed camera angles. I don't think they're bad either. Often times if a game is developed well it's the same kind of concept as the way a director chooses framing for a film. It can be incredibly effective for building that kind of atmosphere in a horror game. However I've never been of the mindset that some people say were fixed cameras make things scarier. I think of anything first person is probably the scariest because you're constantly wondering what the hell's behind you and you can't just kind of cheat by panning the camera around you have to actually turn and face a potential threat. But this over the shoulder third person camera perspective is the standard for a reason. It works. I find it ultimately more immersive to play this way. The original feels like you are watching James go through his journey. The remake feels like you are him going through his journey. Both are valid But the art design and atmosphere in this remake is unmatched. It has far more of a sense of oppressive dread than the original does. And the sound design is spectacular. If you haven't, play it with a pair of 3D headphones in the dark. I cannot overstate how much of a difference that makes I like a bit of the odd and uncanny voice acting from the original better than this one. Everybody's doing a great job but it's just a slightly different tone and way to get everything across. There's less of that hazy dream-like feeling to everybody and it's a lot more grounded instead. And then I just kind of prefer pacing and enemy layout from the original. I think the remake drags on a little longer than it needs to. They expanded every single area in the game to include more content, but I think they either could have cut out a few places, or just added less to each area and it would feel a little bit tighter. With a horror game you can kind of only sustain yourself for so much constant tension at a time, or the game will end up using up all of its tricks and not feel scary anymore in the latter parts. Which I feel like this one unfortunately suffers from because not only is it long, but there's way more combat in this one than there was in the original. You get too used to fighting these enemies and each time you enter a new area you can be confident that there's going to be a lot of them. So instead of wondering if I'm going to encounter an enemy and being afraid to do so, I just know it's going to happen so I've got my finger on the trigger ready to pop off a couple of shots and then swing my lead pipe like mad I think survival horror games work a little bit better if they are shorter and more concise but have things that heavily emphasis replaying the game. I think that's better for its longevity than just stretching the experience out to begin with But I think this game is phenomenal despite those complaints. If the original is an A+, this one is at least a B+ if not maybe an a-. I think it just unfortunately due to being a remake of such a prolific game can never actually achieve the same impact that the original did
@adamdavis17372 ай бұрын
Also as far as what pyramid head is supposed to represent. You're definitely still open to interpretation with a lot of these enemies, but the universally agreed on exclamation for pyramid head, especially since he was taken from the design of an executioner garb. Is that pyramid Head is the manifestation of James's desire to be punished for his sin. Pyramid Head kind of really only shows up to point you in the right direction, and then make James relive over and over again the death of his wife by killing Maria multiple times.

On the PS5 pro price point, i wouldnt have an issue with it if it came with the pro controller as well. The extremely unnoticeable console upgrades that it promises doesnt justify a $250 price increase. And my final point is that the PS5 pro is finally the PS5 that was promised to consumers when the PS5 was first announced in 2020 (4k, 60fps, etc.) So its a huge middle finger to people who bought the original PS5.

The biggest problem with Concord is that they were charging $40 for a game in a genre that is only popular because every game in that umbrella is free to play. Why would anybody pay money for an overwatch clone when Overwatch is free?

I don't recall if we spoke about the price of Concord but yeah charging 40 when a large majority of these games are F2P is silly and not competitive.

Dang, the video game industry business model is coming into a strange age. Expensive consoles for generic games. I saw a Dinocrisis remake on Unreal Engine 4 made by a fan. It was about as engaging as a AAA title can be. Eventually PC and independent creators can cut Sony out of the picture. Is there a way for fans, creators and investors to work together?
@DelcoNerdNetwork3 ай бұрын
I don't think so. Some companies love when fans mod there games like Bethesda and CD Projeckt Red and will even hire those modders. Others like Nintendo want to squanch any and all admiration of their games that deems to be taking revenue away. I think investors would want to be the smaller entity and merge it with the larger one. Money is the priority.
