In the book he goes into the monolith. The end was opening and closing. He gasped " My God It's Full Of Stars"!! That is why it has the appearance at first, of traveling through a tunnel.

I lost my mind to this in the theatres back in 68. I spent the next year in the madhouse. I spent Woodstock in the Cuckoos nest.

Humanity playing with fire and forces she cannot comprehend. The result is being sucked up by a total descent to madness and being reduced to slavery of our own creation. The monolyth is just the representation of ourselves (like a mirror or a screen) conciously looking at all of this and reacting like apes, knowing that we are the ones who did all of this madness but refusing to cope with it. Kubrick, you absolute madman of a genius.

As thrilling and mesmerizing now, as it was the first time i saw this stupendously brilliant sci-fi film. Oh boy, i would LOVE to experience this for real. 2001A SPACE ODYSSEY remains the greatest film ever made!!!❤

From 2:47 is where it becomes ambiguous. It appears to show how universe is created, but I think at the same time it can also be seen as how life is created. I think this scene is ambiguous on purpose comparing the creation of universe with creation of life.

I did see it in 1968. London premier. I was a boy of 14 and fell in love with sci-fi and all its dreams. There really was nothing like it.

Honestly I don't really like this film and this scene is easily the low point. I'm sure colour was mind blowing in the 60s but in 2024 having to watch swirling colours for ten straight minutes is fucking mind numbing.

I honestly now believe that this sequence is a depiction of the spermatoza travelling to the egg(a cosmic journey, indeed!). Literally life being concieved and created into physicallity. Its amazing. The creation of life as Father God and Mother Nature have intended it by sacred design. Kubrick is, I cant do this man justice with mere verbals. He is mentally gay cuz he blows my mind!

This video and totalhipstercrusher’s upload of the Don’t Look Now ending are my examples of movie scenes that sound better in pitch in the videos than the actual movie. This scene feels so much more impactful with the music in this pitch

This is so stunning. It was made months before I was born. It must’ve been transformative to experience this in the cinema in 68. Visually so unique. I’ve seen it several times now. Everything about it the visuals the sound is so transcendent. I was never afraid but caught in a sense of wonder. it’s like bowman got to see a glimpse of pure creation. It brings so much emotion. Absolutely magnificent.

You should probably go see the whole film. It might not make any more sense, but since this sequence comes toward the end of the film , you might not mind. Also you won't have to endure unwelcome ad breaks.😊
