Connecticut or something like that? I live in connecticut and I'll have you know, we are one of the premier communist states in America. A state that tells law abiding citizens what they can and cannot have. A state that only allows criminals to have things like magazine capacities that are current with the times. A state where law enforcement can't pursue criminals, and if by mistake a cop should catch one, the court system releases them. A state like connecticut or something... humph, how dare you. Connecticut is proud to stand tall in the way of our rights, the constitution, and freedom. We are not just connecticut. We are woke tree hugging narcissistic morons I'll have you know. And if the cost of living allowed me any extra money, I'd be the fk out of here for a state like Tennessee or something.

Beretta recommends top brand ammo for their Tomcat specifically because "cheap" ammo causes these issues.

Quality ammo lessens the chance of a malfunction but doesn't eliminate it. 32 ACP ammo choices are limited and most of the options are good. In the 22lr Bobcat, there are a lot more ammo options and they are more widely available. While I wouldn't use a rimfire for self defense, the hotter 22lr options are much more reliable than the big 300+ round bulk options. All of that said, any ammo manufacturer/type can produce a dud round. As such, I've taken to carrying a loose 32 ACP round in a pocket when I carry the Tomcat--something I don't do when carrying the much easier to clear KelTec P32.

Thanks. I haven't had an issue with the extended safety digging into my side or stomach but that will obviously vary from person to person. If you think it might be an issue for you then you may want to consider the M&P 2.0 with 3.6" barrel. That pistol is a little thicker, particularly in the grip, but the upside is that it can accept the M&P magazines. The safety levers on those pistols is the same as the other M&Ps and I tried to show in the video the difference between the Shield Plus extended safety and the safety on my full size M&P. If you already have a Shield then the extended safety is your best option. If you're not yet set on what you want to buy then the 2.0 may be the better way to go. Also, if you're left handed then the safety shown in this video won't work for you.

I bought the Charter Arms Professional about a month ago (June 2024). Mine is the SS 3" seven round in 32 mag. I could not find any factory ammo in my local Phoenix area retailers, but this is not a problem. I have been a handloader for over 50 years. I ordered 1K of brass from Starline (back ordered) and 400 pieces from Powder Valley. I already load for the 32 S&W and 32 S&W Long. The same dies can be used for 32 mag. I have a few thousand Acme 100 gr SWC sitting around for the other 32 calibers, so those were used. I used 3.5 gr of Accurate #2 ignited by Fiocchi small pistol primer on a Dillon 550B press. These are cake to load. The revolver grips were not comfortable, so I installed a Pachmayr "Gripper" to fix this. I also found a perfect holster fit with a Kolster 351. S&W K-frame holsters are like 99% compatible with Charter Arms guns. Yesterday, I fired 200 rounds of my handloaded 32 mag rounds at C2 Tactical in Tempe, AZ. Indoor ranges make a lot of sense when it is 112º F outside. Targets were all set at 40 feet. The first few shots went about 8" wide to the left, but then settled into centered 4" groups the rest of the session. The groups started at about 2-4 inches high, then settled to center. The green fiber optic light pipe front sight was excellent for these old eyes. I found that the group size and placement was about average for what I shoot at that distance. I typically shoot about 400-500 rounds per week using a variety of pistols and revolvers. It is nowhere as accurate and consistent as my Walther PPQ, but it is way ahead of my old Webley or Nagants. Bottom line is that pistol is a keeper. Easy and economical to load. Good enough accuracy that I could improve on with practice, nice hand fit (thank you Pachmayr), low recoil and muzzle blast, light weight, yet would still be effective on most two-legged varmints if things got ugly.

I have compared them off camera and subjectively there is a bit less recoil with the compensator than without. Something I didn't mention in the video is that the comp doubles as a standoff device--in a close contact situation the slide can be pushed back by the body/hand of an attacker which would keep the gun from firing but the comp would be the first point of contact making that less of a possibility.

The gentleman above has been refunded for his unit. What needs to be emphasized is to mark and check your screws and torque them to the specifications that we have set. If the set screws start to back out then it is likely you will have failure and can possibly result in damage. No different than red dot sights, scopes, lights, or other accessories that you attach to a firearm. Again, CHECK YOUR SCREWS. As far as his comment that it’s a gimmick. I have, at this point, literally hundreds of comments from customers that say otherwise.

@@surfacegr1nder705 Thanks for the response. I'm not here to bash or prop up anyone. I can say that my PX4 didn't have any frame damage prior to the use of the metal bar that Vantage Point shipped for free - without being asked - as the attachment point that the screws mount to instead of the polymer. From my perspective the company sending out a fix for a problem some (many? few?) may have experienced without being asked speaks well of the company. I'm not minimizing the claim made by DevilsAdvoca8 made as I don't know the entirety of the situation.

Problem is finding 38 ammunition, and finding it at a decent cost is a challange. Ballistically, the 38 and 9mm are pretty similar. For me, this gun shoots low and to the left. However, the groups are quite tight. I have considered taking some metal off the front site, but am heistant to butcher my gun. Wonderful, simple, shoots well, and stainless. What's not to like? Glad you found it useful. Check out the KelTec P32 and see what you think about the strength needed to rack the slide. It is certainly a much more straightforward clearing procedure in the event of a dud round. Another option might be a LCR in 327. They're lightweight - though quite a bit bigger than the P32 or Tomcat - and can shoot 32 S&W as well as 32 H&R Magnum. If it goes click you can, in an emergency, just pull the trigger again.

True, a failure to fire is more likely than a case not being flung out of the gun. The problem remains for the shooter who now has an empty chamber, likely has hands too weak to operate the slide manually (consider the target audience), and now has to drop the magazine, strip off a round, replace the magazine, drop the loose round into the barrel, close the action, and only then get back to defending himself/herself from whatever threat caused that person to start shooting in the first place.

Does the trigger on this have a "tricky" reset? I have the LCR (in 22) and I have to all but let off the trigger even in a rapid fire, if I don't then the barrel will rotate but no fire. Does this gun have a similar situation?
@ronquixote1739
@ronquixote1739 4 ай бұрын
I have the LCR in 22 mag. With the LCR there are 2 points in the reset that are audible and tactile. Let the trigger out to that 2nd point - pretty much letting the trigger all the way out - and it operates normally. Stop it at the 1st point and try to pull the trigger and the trigger won't pull rearwards and the cylinder doesn't move. The Pitbull is fairly similar in the need to let the trigger go all the way out before being able to pull it rearwards. Trying to pull it earlier doesn't move the cylinder. The trigger does move rearwards a little but has to be let all the way out before it will operate. You may want to contact Ruger about your cylinder advancing when the trigger can't be pulled all of the way rearward in order to drop the hammer.

@ronquixote1739
@ronquixote1739 4 ай бұрын
The reason I made the video is that the gun is marketed towards people who can't rack the slide (age, arthritis, etc) of semi autos with significantly more grip surface. The only option for those shooters is to load another round into the barrel....but where does that extra round come from in a self defense situation? Few people would ever think to carry a loose round which means it has to come from a magazine. Best case the person is carrying a spare loaded mag. While in a self defense situation that person has to put the pistol somewhere while getting out the spare magazine as stripping off a round from the magazine is going to be a 2 hand operation. One the round is free from the magazine, the shooter - again, in the middle of a self defense situation - has to put the magazine somewhere, retrieve the pistol from somewhere, pop up the barrel, drop in (but not drop on the ground) the loose round, close the action, and only then get back to shooting in self defense. As I've said in other comments, I like the Tomcat and carry one on occasion (now with a loose round in my pocket) so I'm not bashing the design of the pistol. Clearing malfunctions is cumbersome and a thought intensive process compared to a standard semi auto (tap, rack, roll) or revolver (pull the trigger again). That should be a point of consideration for any choosing this platform as their self defense option.

When Beretta had the 30x in development they had a $150 rebate and I was seeing online prices of $400. Add shipping, maybe tax, transfer fee and that still doesn't hit $500. Then deduct the rebate and the total cost was running about $350--great deal. I didn't do the video to bash the Tomcat but rather to show a potential issue I hadn't seen highlighted anywhere. Since I did the video I saw that Girsan sells a magazine with a spare round clipped to the bottom of the magazine of their tip of 380--presumably to sidestep the problem of clearing a malfunction and then needing to get a round into the barrel without manually cycling the action.

According to Wiki, .32 acp, .32 Long and .32 Mag all use a bullet .312" in diameter (.32 acp is listed at .3125"). This is typical for a .32 handgun round. .32 acp is shorter than the other two, though, so there's more freebore with that round. Could be why the bullets went sideways. ....of course, it is a Charter Arms, too.
@ronquixote1739

Not sure about wiki's info. The 32 ACP tapers while the Long and Mag are both straight wall cases. I looked at a couple of sites selling reloading components and they list 32 ACP projectiles as .312 while Long and Mag projectiles are .312 or .314. Clearly the barrel is capable of handling the slightly larger projectiles and, presumably, they would better engage with the rifling and be more accurate. I don't know the projectile diameters of the Long and Mag rounds I was shooting but they didn't keyhole while the ACP rounds did. As you point out, the ACPs have to jump from the case to the barrel while the Longs and Mags are closer due to the longer cases.

@@ronquixote1739 Yeah, I think the keyholing, in this case, is probably a case of excessive freebore. I think if any of those guns were actually made to chamber the .32 ACP round, the keyholing wouldn't have happened. JMHO.

@@DeanMk1 I'm not getting the same keyhole results from my Nagant with 32 ACP cylinder. It doesn't appear that the cylinder includes any rifling so the bullet is having to jump to the barrel, though I haven't measured the distances involved. It could be that the Nagant cylinder is shorter overall--and then there's the weird Nagant feature where the cylinder moves forward and presses against the barrel creating a seal.

Another great video on this model of firearm, thanks for making it. I am curious though are you using a center hold or a 6 o'clock hold when you aim? Also I just wanted to mention that Charter Arms themselves have a fantastic lifetime warranty that doesn't cost any extra. It's not as fast as the Davidson's that you mentioned however. Finally I was not a big fan of the stock grips so I changed mine. My black Nitride coated one got their square bottom compact rubber grips and their double action only hammer making for a much more compact model for pocket carry. While my stainless steel one got their rosewood checkered small grips paired with a BK grip sized for a j-frame. Both of these combinations work much better for me than the stock grips.

I am using a center hold, aiming at the middle of the circle, for every shot. I can live with it hitting a little low as I'm not looking for a defense gun. Instead, I got it mainly for Women On Target. A lot of ladies - particularly the older ladies or ladies with arthritis, find the 38 special snubbies a bit too punishing. Those same ladies typically love shooting my Beretta 81 (32 ACP) and even KelTec P32. They want that level of recoil in a center fire round but in a revolver since they know they won't be going to the range more than once or twice a year. They can now shoot the Charter in 32 S&W/32 H&R - Women On Target won't allow 32 ACP since the gun isn't chambered for it - and see if that caliber works for them.

The Tomcat's grip fits my (small) hands better than the P32. I did a video on clearing a Tomcat malfunction and in that respect the P32 has a decisive advantage for anyone with hand strength issues.
