Hello Jules, as I need some insight, As I have a 2018 Indian Roadmaster Elite, With Big Bore Kit/Ported & Polished/Tuner/Dynoed/Pipes/Breather/Rekluse Clutch/with a lot of performance parts done by Indian, The fork seals appear to hold up on this bike OK, but I Live in The HEAT Of Texas, and we endure a lot of very rough roads, dusty, and a lot of bugs. On top of all of the Kinks I put on my Front end I also pull my custom dog trailer. So what name brand performance Seals do you recommend replacing the stock ones with and which name brand fluid and what weight? This bike I need the best name brand seals & Fluid? which do you prefer? I also have another 2019 Indian Roadmaster Elite, With Big Bore Kit/Ported & Polished/Tuner/Dynoed/Pipes/Breather/Rekluse Clutch/with a lot of performance parts done by Indian, and this one has a DMC Side Car with a Custom Dog Trailer. I have SMOKED at least 5 clutches, Fork seals have been replaced a couple of times with only 22,000 miles on the bike now

After I did my own research to find that clamp since it was provided at that shop I was working at. It was a bicycle stand made by Park Tools. So if you contact Park Tools you’ll have better luck finding the clamp.

I should learn repairing Indian motorcycle engine, replacing parts. We have scarcity of service centers here in INDIA, It will be great to learn so that I can do my own repairs when needed. after all we should know every detail of what we are riding.

Thank you for this excellent video. I have a 2020 Roadmaster with almost 15K and 10 months on the road. I've read the factory manual and the procedure is exactly as you shown. Now the problem is I only need to change the oil and the way to measure the level is without the top part of the cartridge. I don't have the special tools so I was thinking of removing the oil from the top and measuring how much comes off, then putting back in the same amount. Another option is measuring the height with the cartridge. I'm also considering going to 30K with the same oil since I've reading comments that at 15K the oil comes out clean.

What is the best method of getting to the upper fork pinch bolt without removing fairing. I tried a extended box end ratchet wrench with a torx bit, but still too big to get in there.

Just purchased the stage 1 air intake. I really can't see how it is filtering any air??? Air enters in the hole in the front and goes directly into the throttle body. Filter sits on top. Weird????
@ursg99102 жыл бұрын
Air is sucked into the air filter on top than into the engine that how it works that’s how the air is filtered prior to being introduced to the engine

Such an informative and concise video. Thanks for uploading. I have little experience with Indian but I have a friend that claims their 15 scout needs “A” head gasket. You said you have to drop the motor if the pushrods fall down. I assume that means for a head gasket the motor has to come out?
@Don20063 жыл бұрын
What's your take on Indian's 2-yr/15k fork oil interval recommendation? Too frequent? I was going to DIY, but the service manual doesn't specify the fill level (we have a 2018 Scout Bobber & a 2020 Scout). But it looks like you do a really thorough job, and if you're at the OC dealership, I'd probably be happier taking the bikes in!

How would you know if you're having an air leak?
@juleswrenches9093 жыл бұрын
Great question. Usually you can hear it even at an idle, and you’ll get some pops on decel. It’s really obvious when installing if you double check the seal on the throttle body before going back together.

@juleswrenches9093 жыл бұрын
Great catch, that honestly could’ve been a mistake where I didn’t mention it (I always time before disassembly). Luckily if you’re setting the timing correctly going back together it shouldn’t be a problem, UNLESS the crank slips while installing. Which in my experience hasn’t happened yet.

What all exactly does this cam upgrade do?
@spectreboy553 жыл бұрын
I'm sure this is a silly question, but what you showed here is it the same procedure on a 2017 Scout ABS or is inside the cam cover totally different?
@juleswrenches9093 жыл бұрын
So the Indian 111 and 116 are both pushrod engines with the cams down lower. All the scout engines utilize a cam over head design. So cam replacement on a scout is ENTIRELY differ procedure than this. 👍🏻

A question relating to 4:30 ... are the cams that came out of the engine the originals? I see that they have the centrifugal decompression mechanism (like S&S Easy Start cams), and I wasn't sure if they were standard or not.

Doing fork seals isn’t expensive as far as parts go. Its just isn’t the easiest job mechanically and takes a good amount of time. But it definitely will be cheaper to do it yourself than having a dealer do it, and only because of the time it takes. I think we charge around 4 hours total, around 450$ bucks just for labor.
