VCR ?!?!? :)))

Hey David, I bought the Smart Things Hub, Google Home and Amazon Echo Dot. If I'd like to be able to set up my DVD player or VCR or Mini Disc Recorder/Player to voice commands from Google Home, would I need to buy the Harmony Hub, or would I be able to use IFTTT and my Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini (it has an IR Blaster) to control those A/V devices and my split system A/C?
