Métis is French for “Mixed” this are white people with a small percentage of indigenous blood. They are classified as “white “ on Census

I stand with you all . I have been through this . I had my youth taken because of the money system. Broken bones lies, abuse programming torture. Then left to rot after . Here's my mark to stand in history with brothers an sisters for the future generations. Who must never let this happen again. My spirit is with you all.

That would be cool to learn how to do that, the angle of the camera does not do it justice to show exactly how to do the weaving, unfortunately.

I was denied harvest rights even though I am a Red River Metis. I provided a million documents regarding this and no clear reason was given for the rejection except for a document they produced which was a really bad OCR job on something regarding my great great grandfather. It was insulting to say the least. We are talking about extreme weak rationality to deny my rights even though my family are the Dumont's, McNabb, Vallee and the Sanderson's. I have so many connections to the Metis nation I am related to almost every major family which can be seen through ancestry DNA. The denial was insane to say the least. Craig is also my cousin.

What are our Metis government doing about the survivors of residential schools in Alberta who are Metis and still living?
@jaysoncowan57632 ай бұрын
This president is a fraud, she was friends with the previous president and they rigged the election so the 5 or more people who tried to run in the election could not run due to technicalities, they ran the election with only 2 people,, it was a setup, she must be rejected. Please ignore everything this person does, we don't need this kind of political manipulation in the Metis Nation.

As an investigative historian I have always wanted to research these teachers, priests, and nuns but I need names. I pay attention to these residential school stories but I never hear names of the people who strapped and beat these kids, who fed them unfit food, and abused them in general. I need some names.

From the looks of it, it’s a very broad term in Canada. in Mexico it’s 50-50 not 1/16.
@gmdruby82202 ай бұрын
It’s not really broad, just a widely misunderstood term. The Métis people of Canada do not necessarily derive from simply being of mixed ancestry but rather are mixed descendants of the Red River Métis settlement. To put it simply, not everybody who has mixed ancestry is Métis. With the intermingling of French, Scottish, Scotts Irish, Cree and Anishinaabe people in modern day Manitoba, over time, the mixed descendants of these relationships eventually created a new culture with unique food, music, dancing and language. The Métis were able to unite under one people when the British invaded their territory in the battle of Seven Oaks and lost. This is the first time our flag was ever flown and has been our flag ever since. Hope this helps

The thing is is that the majority of Mexico Central and South America are proper 50-50 indigenous and European. The Canadian ones some of them look like 1/16 if that.

Just in case there is confusion. When she says shed is the length, this is not so. The SHED is the SPACE where she puts the weft threads across the long threads, (long called Warp). Passing the Weft thread to the left through the SHED. This is a lovely instruction for finger weaving which I have never tried as other videos left me confused. I must try this now. Thank you very much.

Fingerweaving? I've not heard this word before. I get that you're saying there's no loom. I think everyone else would just say "handwoven.". Unless I'm missing something about the technique. Fiver arts techniques are as intricate as they are diverse. I wonder where the cultural use of "fingerweaving" comes from. I am not quite getting the cultural significance of the term. But as you describe it in the video, its the symbolosm of the worn woven textiles that seems most culturally important. I'll watch the process again.
@eileenfb19485 ай бұрын
Hand woven cloth is done on a loom which is totally manual, therefore it is called handwoven. This is how all material was made for such a long time. So, as the word already exists for something specific it would be inaccurate to call it hand woven. These looms were often quite large, men could weave a wider piece of fabric as they had a longer reach.
@eileenfb19485 ай бұрын
@RobespierreThePoof For many years all fabric was woven on a wooden loom which was totally manual. The loom was as wide as a person could stretch out their arms to push the shuttle through the shed and back and forth. This was called hand made material. The same name could not be used for this new technique so finger weaving it was.

In the heart of Alberta, where the prairies wide, The Métis gather, with pride they stride, With the beat of the drum and the fiddle’s song, At Alberta Métis Fest, where we all belong. Alberta Métis Fest, where the spirit flies, With the dance and the song, under open skies, In the warmth of the fire, and the stories told, Alberta Métis Fest, where traditions unfold. With the jig of the dance and the joy in the air, We celebrate the culture, with love and care, From the elders’ wisdom to the children’s cheer, At Alberta Métis Fest, we hold all dear. In the colors of the sashes, and the sounds of the night, We find our connection, in the soft firelight, With each hand we hold, and each laugh we share, The Métis spirit, in the cool evening air. So here’s to the Métis, with their heritage bright, In the unity of the fest, we find our light, With the echo of history, and the promise of tomorrow, At Alberta Métis Fest, we share joy and sorrow.

Why was it allowed to happen to Children ?
@JuvyThaKid2 ай бұрын
To erase the language, beliefs, and culture in general. They rounded the kids and taught them their Christian or Catholic ways so they didn't grow up learning their native languages and beliefs. They did what they could to erase everything about Inuit, Métis, and First Nations culture so they could have Canada for themselves. Same things the Brits tried to do with Ireland and Scotland 100s of years before.
