I read this book when I was 14 and it seriously increased my IQ by a big margin. It teaches you to think, analyse and comprehend things. Not to mention you will learn how machines work and physics will become easier.

I’m glad you mentioned that about the bias because I saw that they label themselves as progressive in their about section so I always recommend people know whos writing the curriculum and what they choose to label themselves as it may come through on all sides
@TheHomeschoolBreakroomАй бұрын
One of my biggest peeves in the homeschool world is when publishers aren't up front about their own biases. When it's not mentioned and then I come across it, it leaves me feeling gross. Just own it! We all have them & being up front about it gives me the information I need. (But critical thinking, being aware of our own biases, etc. is sorely lacking in society in general, IMO. I just expect more out of an EDUCATION company.)

@TheHomeschoolBreakroomАй бұрын
Man, it's different! It's been a struggle to figure out HOW to use it well. He just started chapter 2 this week and I'm hoping it's a smoother go than chapter 1. I like the material & approach, he likes the GeoGebra program. And I only just discovered that there were answers, which should make this go a little smoother for sure. 🤣 🤦🏻♀️ What about you? (I'm going to talk more about it in an upcoming update video.)
@Jana-e3lАй бұрын
@@TheHomeschoolBreakroom It is definitely different. We are on Chapter 2 and trying to get accustomed to it. We also like the material, approach, and GeoGebra tools. It's requiring a lot of hands on help navigating all of the parts of the program, which is fine for us currently. My son definitely preferred the Algebra I approach. It seems geometry has less direct instruction (although the commentary and review videos are very helpful). You really have to figure out how to apply all the pieces learned during exploration of the central problem to the other problem sets. I'm hopeful we'll get into the swing of things soon because I really do think it will provide a solid foundation for geometry principles. It's just a stark contrast to what we did last year! Good luck and I will love watching your take on it if you do a video!

Hello just a quick question I'm interested in purchasing level 4 books for my 9 year old. Is the answer sheet inside the book for the parents? Thank you for your time!
@TheHomeschoolBreakroom2 ай бұрын
Yes, the solutions guide are in the back of each book. And they are better than just answers -- they give awesome instructions on how to get TO the answer. If you haven't already given a couple of pretests for level 4. If your kiddo is advanced, level 4 may be perfect. But for many kids that age, level 2 or 3 is a better fit especially since Beast is such a different way of approaching math.

@TheHomeschoolBreakroom2 ай бұрын
Oh, I can’t believe I didn’t address that! 🤦♀️ Forester’s is considered a pretty rigorous program. This kiddo is STEM-bound which is one of the reasons we chose it over Mr.D, a program my other kiddo used. I think an average kiddo who enjoys math or doesn’t object to a bit of struggle would probably do fine with it, too.

You mentioned that your son finished too soon, but that you skipped books. Would it have helped to extend his time by having him read all of the books?
@TheHomeschoolBreakroom3 ай бұрын
Good question! Maybe? For some reason, I can't really wrap my head around this answer. 🤣 He read a bunch of other books, so it wasn't like he was doing fewer hours of school work. But if he hadn't skipped books, I guess he would have done this longer and just less of the other stuff. Even if he had read everything, I still think he would have finished early, just not AS early. I can't remember if I mentioned it in the video but he's a pretty fast reader. So that does skew how early he finished, too.

Thank you so much for sharing this video! Did your child take precalculus algebra as well as precalculus Trigonometry? Also, since in the state of NC, Economics and Government are required for HS graduation, were you able to take these two classes as ducal enrollment classed?
@TheHomeschoolBreakroom3 ай бұрын
No, she switched to statistics. We considered another pre-calc class but statistics interested her more. By that point, she had decided against a science major that would have required calculus, so there wasn't a need to take it. She took government but not economics. Since NC doesn't set homeschool graduation requirements, we didn't end up doing a traditional econ class.

This year, for literature for my high schooler, I have chosen four books that I want him to read and I'm having him keep a commonplace book. Three of the books we already owned and the last one I could have gotten from the library, but chose to purchase it. No expensive literature programs and no quizzes. I'm just requiring that he make at least two entries per week in his commonplace book.

I love literature based learning, but I completely agree that it has to be limited in order to work for our family. I cannot do a literature based language arts, history and science. I have several children and it just becomes too much. Last year and this coming year I chose to do literature-based history and it's been great. This coming year I'm going to do a literature based science as well, but with only one main book as our spine. I may or may not get some additional library books to go with each topic. We also use audiobooks while we are driving a lot. I recently discovered that I could get hoopla through my library, download books to my phone and listen to them in the van. So excited about this option!
