I’m so glad to have found this! I have been thinking of how to do this and was thinking of using rinsed coffee grounds. Sawdust is a brilliant medium! This gentleman must have been the voice Professor Steven Hawking’s voice synthesiser was modelled on!

Oh my god, I watched your video with the sawdust scenery. I did this 25 years ago. Had made sifters to get fine , medium, coarse. Different colors too. Built a bagging hopper and had labels printed. Was selling it to the local hobby store. Earned like $150.00 doing this. That video brought back alot of memories.

You should have included yellow signals because 1:40 the 1st signal should have 2 or 3 lights showing clear to medium and then the 2nd signal should show medium to stop

Missing from your talk is the explanation that the 4 digit numbers correlate to the length and width of the LED. Also the resistors needed to make them functional is missing, otherwise the rapidly will go Pop from an over-voltage issue. Mounting methodology would also be informative.

I have also found that the flowers from Cedrus, Pine or Birch trees make for an amazing leaf cover in 1:85 to 1:35 scale , depending on what type of trees you are trying to recreate. Just be sure to pick it before it hits the ground and After they have finished dusting the pollen. It is very resistant to mold too.

you should put your dyed sawdust in the microwave at 850 watt for about 3 minutes at the least so you fixate the colour in the sawdust

Why is there no yellow light between the last clear block and the red signal?
@TrainmanSky4 жыл бұрын
Charles Gault same for 1:40 he didn’t put a medium to stop signal and instead had it medium to clear

A great demo John, but there is a fundamental thing to remember with blocks. You have to remember to space out the signalling to accommodate the maximum length of passenger coaches or freight cars attached to the locomotive in an individual block. If this is not done, then the bock might record a green indicating that the locomotive has passed, but the freight cars or passenger coaches are still in the supposedly green indicated block and liable to collide with the next train entering the block. However, for the purposes of illustrating the operation this was good.

That big vice works as a huge heat-sink. You might be better holding these tiny components with a clothes-peg. They are thermally more efficient and less likely to crush the leds. Nice video,

Where do I get the circuit boards from? Do the circuit boards come with the electronic parts installed? Or do I have to do that? You talked about a solenoid changing the blades fro a turnout. What solenoid do you use? Is the solenoid mounted under the track? Or beside the track?
@kargandarr5 жыл бұрын
For the LEDs that are blinking alternately a J-K clocked flip-flop would work for that. The way this works is one LED is connected to one output of the flip-flop and the other LED is connected to the other. Caution, when you do this because those LEDs will each need a current limiting resistor on the cathode (ground) side of them.
