Founded by DJ, producer and multi instrumentalist Tenderlonious in 2013, 22a is a record label that plays host to a collective of talented musicians based in London. Al Dobson Jr, Mo Kolours, Jeen Bassa, Henry Wu, Reginald Omas Mamode IV and Dennis Ayler have all featured on the label. The label is considered to be at the forefront of the rising UK jazz scene and has captured the eye of tastemakers such as Gilles Peterson, Benji B, Lefto, Alexander Nut, Bradley Zero, Osunlade, Mr. G, Bonobo and many more! Since it’s inception listeners have been treated to a selection of singles, EPs & albums spanning House, Hip Hop, Broken Beat, Jazz and soul to name a few.
Now into 2018 they have firmly established themselves as one of the leading independent labels in the UK, with a consistent output of quality releases. Like many jazz greats, but first amongst the new UK generation, Tenderlonious headed East in 2019 to record with Pakistan's Jaubi trio for 22a Music. The results area a stunning, East meets West spiritual fusion, as he intertwine his jazz flute and soprano sax through the Ragas. Honestly, this is delicious. Thank you for playing together, Jaubi and Tenderlonious. Tender, I hope the experience was such that you want to make raga a staple in your playing.
