It just goes that a bigger, heavier bike will be better for the interstate, but other than that, I would never want a heavier bike.

Hi mate, may I ask the size of your handlebar? And when you installed that, if you need new extended wires?

I always felt like I was in the wrong gear on my VLX. First was too short. Fourth was too tall. I was constantly shifting on side roads, hunting for the right gear. I chose the VLX as a first full-size bike because I thought four gears would be easier to learn. Turned out to be a PITA.

No. Anything above 60mph the motor vibates far to much making for a very unplesant ride. Can't imagine doing 100. '89 vlx.

Clear roads like that!! Makes it a much better experience’ I hope to find a road like that 😂 here in Phx Az. Drivers are hot and aggressive in the summer… that’s why I wait to ride my bike when the weather is nice.

I have a '14 72 model and have taken it to 90+ mph in 4th gear. Of course it can cruise the freeway. The trouble is the ape hangers in the wind blast. I have put a Memphis Shades Del Rio on and ride it wherever I want. The engine is happy cranking away at higher rpm. It's a Sportster, not a Bad Boy Dyna Hog Heritage Glide. Let 'er eat.

The transmission is the best feature to me because I love a clutch but hate shifting. My 600 will do 100mph with a good tailwind which is plenty fast to me.

I was "only" in my 20s when I realized I like "cruisers". Different bikes for different riders! No different than cars. I was a 28 year old "kid" when I bought my first (and so far ONLY) NEW car: A 1990 Buick LeSabre! At the time I had to be HALF the age of the average buyer of THAT model. I didn't CARE. It rode nice and was DAMN NEAR a Cadillac for way less money!

Went about 400 miles on a Honda Benly 185cc and went o the Isle of Man one 100cc. Loved my 06 1200C, on an 06 Club Style Dyna now which I love but still miss that Sporty. Had two others before an old 82 Iron head, that was definitely a short range bike and a 96 rigid mount 120cc with a Dyna tank. Bought it and rode it 350 mile home. By the time I got out of Bournouth onto the Motorway I was thinking I'd made a mistake it was shaking that much ( had been on Japs and Italians since the Ironhead ). But by th etime I was passing London i'd settled into it and started to enjoy the ride. In the end it was great fun, but I wouldn't have another rigid mount. lol

Thanks for such an enthusiastic endorsement of my new bike, bro! Just bought a 2013 Sportster 1200 Custom and looking forward to riding it for the first time tomorrow morning. Traded in my 1996 Honda Magna to buy it, and that was the best bike I've ever owned. At least so far! I have a feeling this 1200 C is going to be very special and just my style of bike.

Yes, a 1200 Sportster is ready for the highway. I toured on one for 10years, all over the western U.S. Not as comfortable as a touring bike, but it can & will. You WILL be tired & sore after 500 miles.

When you first go riding you need to know the hazards in your area you have traveled in cars and if there are wild animals in your area or business were trucks enter the road or cars and when you approach an intersection be fully aware of what others are doing and drive for others watch how people drive a guess what they are going to do I became very good at it and I would say they are going to turn right or left and sure enough they did my wife asked how did you know and I would say I know everything than tell her there are very small things they do just before they do like when they turn the don’t have to single they will either go to the centre line to do a wide turn or start no move to the edge of the lane to pull over or turn like they are entering a slip lane lots of little things like this will save you by knowing what the other drives are about to do

Enjoy the adventure. I’m 64 and 100 lbs heavier than you. No problem on the interstate. Always had a bike. ‘76 Yamaha RD400 from Sonoma Ca to San Antonio TX where they chopped off all of my hair at Lackland AFB. Any 1200 from 04 onwards is fine for solo. 03 and earlier might make you hands numb but chug along just fine.

Mirrors nice and clear at 75mph. I rarely ride my 1200 Sportster in town. To many cars close to you, so i travel interstate heaps. I grew up in the era that motorcycles travel where ever we want to go. We could raise the drive pulley up two sprocket sizes to lower revs a little but not necessary.
