I used to drill with the 205th in those old buildings. I took a military tour of them in the early 80's when they were still being kept in case they needed them again. We were told during the tour that they produced small arms ammo during the Viet Nam war. The machinery was coated with cosmoline. The guide said it would take longer to recalibrate all of the tools than it had taken to originally open the plant. It looks like all of the production line has been removed.

my mom used to go into these caves with her brothers back in the 80's. She's told me so many stories about this place. Couple years ago a classmate of mine ventured in with some friends with gopros and got some crazy footage but had to leave as someone else was in there following them, staying to the shadows. Creepy af.

I was on the river nearing downtown st. paul yesterday. I passed a drain outlet that was massive and it was pouring out fast-moving, COOL, subterranean-cooled air. A companion mentioned an underground helix system, and I believe it may be connected to this drain. Do you have any idea if this drain terminates at the Mississippi heading downstream a bit before harriet island? I could see graffiti inside of it from my Kayak's vantage point, but it seemed like folks wouldn't be entering it from the river. Anyway, I'm too old/scared to do this myself, but I was just curious if i stumbled on the drain yesterday while on the river.

We used to drop acid in those caves back in the late 80s. We would turn off all the flashlights and sit in complete darkness and laugh. We met a lot of other weirdos in there too. Although some of it looks a little different, much of it is just as i remember. There were some other caves called the battle creek caves. Those caves had roving gangs of violent skinheads. Bad news

Used to party with some buddies up top, drinking, smoking. Yeah I know, very smart. One time at 1am, some cops came and hit us with their spotlight. They told us to come down or they would send dogs in. We laughed and just yelled "No." Kept drinking our beer, and the cops left after sitting for 10 minutes 😂

I remember going in those caves in the early nineties with one of my friends. The rubble that is being crawled over, are actually the remnants of the old high bridge. that they blew up in 1986 and then built the new one. They just shoved all the debris inside. Back when I was in there you could still see the road stripe on the underside of some of the rubble.

Very cool guys, I remember going to these caves back when I was a kid and they fun by the time we moved out of the state they had started filling them in, I’m not sure but I think I remember some people built a huge bonfire in one of the bigger ones and it caused part of the ceiling to crush a few people and that’s when the city started shutting them off

Class of 88, Washburn... we partied in those caves almost every Friday/ Saturday night. Me and a few friends would carve chairs in the walls about 8 feet off the ground, set a candle in one of the ajacent caverns/ put on some Floyd, sit in our thrones and imagine there was no floor, and just veg out to the strange reflections the candle put off. One time we went in, there wasn't a drop of snow on the ground, we came out and there was 2 feet of snow. Yup, we got a little side tracked down there. If you drank in HS, it didn't matter who you were, Prom queen to stoner.... they found their way down to those caves for some good times and friends.

Ha! There were chairs carved in the big party cave back in 85 , with faces on them and names in the wall dating back to 1920’s . There used to be huge parties in those caves . At one of the parties a guy broke his leg and they sealed them up.

Me and my friends also partied in those caves when we were teenagers back in 2000-2002 I remember climbing over all that concrete and rebar to get to the openings with just a lighter lol and candles or one flashlight maybe we would make our way back all the way to the throne room where people carve chairs into the walls like an actual throne room. The detailed was amazing. I wish I would’ve took pictures. There were steps leading up to the main chairs, and the whole back wall was lit up by candles every time me and my friends went there who kept the candles it was an amazing place and dangerous place my stepbrother and his friends decided to have a fire one evening in those caves, and it collapsed on them. He jumped on top of his girlfriend to save her life. The rubble collapsed on top of him, leaving him, partially paralyzed whoever enters those caves today, be careful do not have any fires it will dry out the sandstone flash Bring a flashlight and tell people where you’re going and do not go up the stairway to Heaven. It’s a dead end.

@@jasonrowe4574funny i was doing research and apparently in 1988 there were 2 other people that died, one by collapse and the other drowning. Also wish I knew about the dead end, i nearly fell to my death climbing down as there was no rope and the stairs were unsustainable.
