My WoL is a viera and her backstory is that when she was very young (like 3 or 4) her parents were accused of a terrible crime they didnt commit but couldnt prove. Her mom had been raising her in her village alone while her dad helped kept the village and surrounding area safe. One day they ambush her and her mom in their house and they had to escape by force. Her mom took her and fled, called her dad out of hiding, and gave her to him before returning to the village to keep the others from finding them. Her dad then took off qith her and raised her on his own for a few years before realizing the village was catching on again and he was forced to leave her somewhere he thought was safe- a small settlement far away, near the outskirts of Gridania. She grew up as a sort of community-raised child where she did chores and odd jobs for gil so she could keep herself cared for since her dad taught her how to do a lot of things like that. She grew up that way till she was an adult and decided to finally bite the bullet, joining a couple strangera of their way to Gridania. She wanted to find her parents and village, and to learn what became of them, but ended up getting a *liiiiiittle* side-tracked along the way

Upon replaying some of the Dark Knight questline myself, I think the ultimate takeaway I have is... It's not enough to fight for others. You have to love and protect yourself too. I don't think it's a coincidence that the level 70 quest where this is at the front first and foremost, is the ability that when successfully used to protect someone, anyone, fills you with strength in return. Nor that the quest about closure is the one where we gain the ability to summon Esteem ourselves. The writing is way too clever and lines up far too nicely to convince me otherwise. The final journal entry, where you tell yourself, 'I love you,' always breaks me. I struggled with, and still struggle, with self loathing a lot. It wasn't long ago that I was able to say those words to myself and truly mean them for what felt like the first time. The most important person you need to care about you is yourself. I definitely shed tears over this job as well. TvT

This is good, and i love hearing other people do something new with their Characters In Endwalker I got fantasia'd and name changed because i no longer felt the muse to write my character, so I retired her and had a lot of fun cooking with this new concept The best way to feel about it? 'New adventure, New me!'

Spoilers: With how light hearted the job quest started, to say I was caught off guard at the end the is an understatement. I didn't have crying at an imaginary moogle disappearing on my bingo card for Dawntrail, yet there I was fighting tears back. Doesn't help that my expectations for the job quests were low due to GNB, DCR, SGE, and RPR having ranging from okay to not great job quests. Glad to see them up their game with this one.

I interpret Janquetilaque's name as "zhahnk/ti/lahk". Kinda like the French "jean" with the -k sound, the letter T, then Lock.

I kind of had an idea of WoL being born under Garlean Occupation and being drafted to fight against Eorzea. But the aetherial explosion after the fight with Midgarsommr would block all WoL memories, making them the perfect blank slate for the player. Yoshi-P already made the full party system, and limit break system canon. It's Azem's summoning crystal, and dynamis. This past for WoL would fit in with that design ideology. WoL is an amnesiac.

Someone brought it up in the comments but Ayla’s name definitely reminds more of a Moon Miqo’te name. It could be that maybe she’s got some Moon cat heritage in her family line so they use that naming style instead. We have in game examples like Minfilia’s “mom” F’lhaminn who has a Sun style name but is a Moon cat. But really, your character your rules! :) she definitely doesn’t have to follow any established naming “rules”. Ayla is a great name and I can’t wait to see more of her adventures!

Still gonna call her Nemu. 😊 Whether it be her real name or just a nickname, the name is stuck in my head, there's no getting rid of it. 🤪😆

Whatever you call her keep the lore coming! Never really thought about my WOL's backstory, nothing has really come into the fore that makes me want to give her one either. Maybe Dawntrail or further will prompt something! I'm just happy with her being who she is now and the stories she creates now.

Ayla makes me think of Chrono Trigger which is a good thing. It makes sense though, good reason to have a name, and hells the WoL is a trauma ball so issues about their name seems like the least of their issues but one that fits right in with them. But yeah I get you about the naming and feeling weird changing things. I am trying to think of a lore reason why my Miqo is turning into a Hroth besides I've always pictured her being taller then average. Like her being hroth doesn't break anything, when I first saw them I said oh she's half hroth her dad was a lost and her mom was a seeker and she just looks weird. Side note while I haven't made her parents I did make her hroth grandpa and he's a gentleman. But yeah she's a hroth and do I just hand wave it as of she's always been a hroth or give a lore reason. Besides waiting for dawntrail thats what keeps me up at nights. If I could just make her as tall as I wanted she'd still be a Miqo. I just like the idea of her being basically an amazon hanging out with the scions.

It's always interesting to see people's personal head canon when it comes to their Warrior of Light. You mentioned Ayla Okiyre not being conventionally lore-accurate for Sun Cats, you could always go Moon Cat, it sounds pretty lore-accurate for them (and you get some fangs to boot!). "A bit difficult to adjust to the new name." My cousin, at around 43 years old, changed from Katie to Emmet, and a lot of us still struggle to remember the name change, some five years later, so yeah, such things tend to be works in progress.
