Can't compare to it's contemporary units, as I do not or ever did own one, but comparing to my Elekit TU-8200R amp with TU-8500 pre-amp there is a difference. Although very subjective, It's a little bit like comparing apples and oranges and this is why I will retain myself in making any statements. It very much depends on your years, sources, room, equipment, etc.

Thanks. Yes, they are very good indeed. Rarely you find a speaker that goes along well with all types of music and wattage. I like them so much that in fact I also own the previous version, the L1030's. I can strongly recommend either version. You should be able to find a pair in decent condition, as they were very popular back in the days, at least in Europe that is. Price wise they pretty much fly under the radar of hi-fi enthusiasts, but sometimes demand premium prices because of their kult status in design, given by their creator, Dieter Rams. Kind regards

Hi! Thanks for the detailed answer! I'll definitely keep my eyes peeled! I'm after a pair in good condition with walnut veneers. Just like yours. The technical data of these are incredible and and everyone appreciate the sound quality of this model. What is the difference between 1006 TC and the l1030? Have you ever heard the 1002s? There is one two hours drive from me and thinking to give a shot to it. Unfortunately its in black colour. Not perfectly original: two bass have new surrounds and a top driver had been rewired. Thanks in advance!

@@csege6 My pleasure. Construction and driver wise the SM 1006 TC and the L 1030's are identical. I think there are some slight modifications in the crossovers, as the SM 1006's have a higher wattage rating. These two models used woofers with rubber surroundings. I don't know how the 1002's sound, but I also have a pair of SM 1005's (identical to L 830's), you can listen them in another video of mine and I can honestly say that the difference in real world is almost unnoticeable between the SM 1006/L 1030's and these. However the SM 1005's used a foam surrounds that rotten over time and need to be replaced. The bass response in all there models is quite impressive and step well into subwoofer turf, but without being bass heavy like some Grunding's do.

Question. I am a novice. I purchased a Sansui 661 receiver I also bought a Sansui ra500 reverb and a turntable can I pair a Sansui qs500 with the 661 receiver to add all the other gadgets to the unit as well as two more speakers. Does it work well for that. Not sure what it does😊
@kingscoins83
@kingscoins83 Жыл бұрын
Not very familiar with the QS-500, but as I recall is considered to be the little brother of the QS-800, so it should have the same base function. So, yes you should be able to add the QS-500 rear amllifier to the 661 receiver in order to obtain quadrophonic sound. In this configuration the RA-500 and the turntable or any other devices should be hooked up to the 661. You will also need 2 pairs of speakers, one connected to the 661 and the other one to the QS-500. Hope this helps with your dilema

The speakers seems not matching with Sansui. A litle bit brighter on highs and steep to listen long. May need some tone control. Sansui and ARs are both excellent gizmos, anyway. Fisher will calm some tonal highs down. Less harsh.

@@kingscoins83 Hi, thanks for the kind response. It was likely annotations, which were great, but KZbin got rid of around 2015? ish. A damn shame, they replaced them with 'end screens', which while they can be ok, can also be annoying and obtrusive. The annotations were exceptionally great to have and use. Change the style of your 'box (caption, speech bubble, etc.) its size, colour, font size and duration. It was a really great design .. and they dropped it! ...... for 'end screens'. (this place has gone down hill really apart from the upload speeds) I'm guessing the first speakers were the Telefunkens. They sounded the best, and the Kefs (the last) sounded good too. Best regards.
@kingscoins83
@kingscoins83 2 жыл бұрын
@@Netlife-001 yes, if my memory serves me right they were annotations. For some time I really hoped my work wasn't lost, but in the end I accepted the outcome😔. Yes, the Telefunken's are a true hidden gem, but also the KEF's stand up to their name. Meanwhile all were sold and replaced by various Braun's (L1030, SM1006, SM1005) and a pair of Grundig 306 compact, which is truly an impressive speaker for it's size. I'm also restoring a pair of Sansui SP-3700A's, but that is another story. Kind regards

@@kingscoins83 I might pick up a pair of the Telefunkens this week, 300 mile round trip putting me off a bit ... I'll let u you know. I'm a big Grundig fan, got some gems. HiFi box 500 being my favourite. Absolute sensational smooth sound via a Sanyo amp. (last week I found a pair of Box M300's, a bit smaller than the 500's, paid 8 euros in a junk shop! The 500's a I found a few years back, in another junk shop. I had to change out a tweeter. Got a pair of 3 way Klangboxes (look a bit like the Telefunkens, a pair of Audioprism 503, a pair of compact box 350 ... it never ends ... the search. Funnily enough though back in 1991 I had a pretty good setup, Celestion Ditton 44s, Yamaha NS10 studio monitors, Awai 777 tape deck, a nice Sansui amp from the early 70's. I sold it all!!! The better amps have a muting circuit for speakers when powering on. This avoids any thumps "power surges" to woofers. Otherwise, your suggestion is practical. Good advice for equalizers is EQ on first and off last.

I own both the 104 and 104ab and slightly prefer the 104. I can recommend this passive radiator design which reminds me of modern Buchardt. My 1975 KEF 104s have this feature and I judged them the best speakers I could find in 1975, just above Klipschorns. They like lighter wires used back then. Monster cables mudded them up. The 104's are quite similar to the famous two way BBC LS3 5/a but in a bigger box and the large passive radiator. I describe my 104s as crystal clear but warm with a tight musical bass. I think they retailed for $500 each back then. Niether pair have needed recapping or other service. I match them with a rebuilt 1975 Marantz 1060 @30w channel which is way plenty. This particular model has click stop tone controls for bass, mid and trebble which is handy to accomodate accoustic variables. It also has a button for a remote speaker set Sterling makes the LS3 5/a now to original KEF driver specs. The BBC design was licensed to many manufacturers such as Harbeth and are still made to the KEF driver design by Sterling. www.stirlingbroadcast.net/ls35a_v2.html
