I spent a few weeks in Applecross in the 1970's with my work. That was before the new road down the coast from the north was built. The only way to reach Applecross and the other villages was this road (summer months only) or by boat from Kyle of Lochalsh. It seemed more like an island than part of the mainland. The Applecross Hotel had a black and white TV which could only receive BBC1, and a shed at the side was an off-license open one hour each evening selling tins of McEwans bitter or Tennants Lager. The hotel water supply came from a burn behind, and if you ran a bath, it looked like weak tea because of the peat.
