Am using a 1080p native dlp projector. Cant see the difference but my projector supports micromirror dithering, that upscale it to 4k

James 😂 I’ve used Clifton for almost two decades now. I’ve found them insightful both personally and professionally. Awesome to hear someone else’s experience. Did you ever retest to see if new experiences or growth changes the order of your top five?

I had taken it about five years earlier than the one I mentioned here and had somewhat different results, so part of why I brought this up was that I was thinking about taking it again since it's been almost a decade. I know that I personally tend to get different results on tests over time, even ones that aren't supposed to change much-I've been at least 4 different Myers-Briggs types-so I tend to be in the habit of checking in with myself regularly.

@@RealJamesArcher I highly recommend retaking. Have you looked into the DISC report? I've also taken my fair share of Myers-Briggs. The DISC and Strengths-Finder have been go-tos for years.

i guessed all of them correct watching the video in 1080p tbh i didnt expect that outcome, but i do remember some headline awhile back claiming that downscaled looks better. i kind of suspected it since then, but now i'm certain, thanks edit: 15.6" and i cant quite punch the screen from here. screen does 1920x1080

Hi James Thank you for doing this comparison. Two things: When you choose such brilliant words of wisdom to accompany your video when the purpose is to distinguish between 4K and 1080, unfortunately it's counter productive because it makes it harder to focus on the task at hand 😊 Seriously, YES I can clearly see a difference between 4K and 1080p. 1080 isn't bad, it's just slightly 'flat soda'- like, next to 4K.

Well... if we're talking about a random group of people then yes, but not if you're in a place people have come to visit voluntarily. Like an interesting conference or a show. Then significantly more than 1 in 100 would contact the performer - some to get an autograph, some to just chitchat 👍

Watching on a 75" new QLED on google tv app and 800 mbps net speed. Not much difference to me, except the 4k looks slightly better on the zoom and the 1080P looks slightly better on the parking lots scenes. lol Btw my KZbin says streaming at 2160P which apparently is not 4k. Not sure anybody is really seeing it in true 4K

As someone who owns a 32 inch 4K gaming monitor with a 240 Hz refresh rate, I can say that the difference is minimal-you really have to focus to notice it. I bought my monitor for nearly €1,500, hoping for a better gaming experience, but I ended up disappointed. Nowadays, I mostly use it to watch movies in 4K. I still play games in 1080p because I prefer having three times the FPS over a slight increase in quality. The only time I notice a significant difference between 1080p and 4K is on larger screens, like my 55-inch TV. For monitors up to 34 inches, the difference is small to negligible.

James, great job on the video. Really nicely done. Can I ask you about one thing you didn't cover here that is confusing me (just looking into video). With stills you have 8bit JPG and let's say 14bit RAW files. The JPGs have a baked in colorspace and luminance applied with picture profile. The RAW file can be placed in sRGB or Adobe RGB or ProPhoto RGB depending on intended use (display for web vs print) etc. Now, switching to video - If you shoot RAW internal video (i.e. Nikon Z9/8) - You can shoot NRAW (color space) and use a LUT as luminance and export in Rec 709 (gamma of the device?). My question is when shooting in compressed video (i.e. H.264) - is that like shooting in JPG where the color space and luminance are baked it to some extent? If not, how does it differ? Thanks.
@RealJamesArcher
@RealJamesArcher 19 күн бұрын
That's a pretty solid comparison, and is basically how it works. The problem with video is that it's like capturing dozens of raw frames every second, so the digital weight of it is just massive. Unless you're shooting something super high-end, say it it's likely that you would be just fine shooting in a compressed format with a log profile, especially if it's 10 bit or better. A balanced approach almost always beats an extreme approach.
@dance2jam
@dance2jam 18 күн бұрын
@@RealJamesArcher Thanks for that James. Now bear with my silly questions because I haven't done any video shooting yet. By 10 bit compressed I think my only options are 10bit H.265 and ProRes. I do not own a Mac and probably would edit in DaVinci. Do you have a preference or recommendation? Thanks again.

Hi James, can you please explain "shoot in 1080p and export 4k" etc.? What does that mean and how can I use it (and why)? I just don't get the point of it. If I shoot in 4K it's because I want to "export" in 4K, isn't that always the case? Obviously not, haha. Thanks in advance. And btw, I loved the video!

Question if I use a same background video loop in all of my projects which is about a 1GB. Copying that file into every project will eat up so much of my hard disk space. So what do you do about that scenario?
