The Colorado side of Dinosaur is a treasure! If you have a 4WD vehicle, drive down to Echo Park and camp (primitive) near the Green River and Steamboat Rock in Echo Park Campground. Explore Chew Ranch, petroglyphs, and Whispering Cave on the way down. On the next day, drive Yampa Bench Road to see three dramatic overlooks on the Yampa River-- for solitude and some of the most awesome canyon scenery you'll ever see.

Grew up in Vernal went to the Quarry several times on field in school. My family hunted Blue Mtn for many years. Pats Hole or as its known know as Echo Park, cool place. Wanting to float the Desolation Canyon section of the Green as part of my bucket list.

That's a fossil skull of a camarasaurus (species of dinosaur). It is visible in the Quarry Exhibit Hall at the monument.

I like the Colorado side of the park. Great views and nobody to bother you. And the Harpers corner hike at the end of the long road is pretty sweet.

It was an awe inspiring sight to a ten year old me. Its still pretty awesome 50 years later. The human concept of time is a blink of the eye in comparison to the geologic timespan.

I have been there and it was mind blowing indeed. When there no one told me about the shuttle to take you to the site....and when the bus came I asked where everyone was going. I got onboard, and all I can say is WOW...was more than I expected ! ! Worth the stop.

In 2008,, on a 3 week drive around the West. Drove there, then found the exhibit closed due to building and wall were unstable. So didn't get to go in. Around 1976 on a bicycle cross country trek. I did get to go in for a short visit. Reason or one of the reason wanted to go back in 2008.

I appreciate the understanding of why we describe the terrain as difficult. Because we tried to cultivate based on what we knew how to do, rather than by working with the environment. Thanks for dropping some knowledge, Ranger Mason! 👊

I had to call the ranger station - they keep pretty good tabs on it. But they are sometimes busy and will have to call you back. I missed out when I was there in late May because it had just rained 2 or 3 days in a row and the road was too muddy. Some people went down anyway and a couple got stuck and had to be pulled out. The mud is very sticky clay, so it almost doesn't matter what kind of rig you have.

Great question! Dinosaur National Monument is located on the border of Colorado and Utah in the United States. The Quarry Exhibit Hall is located on the Jensen, UT side of the monument.

Just a heads up, it is a Type I, III, or V WHITEWATER approved vest. A type III general purpose does NOT qualify.
@markhusbands2037

There is a disconnect between what companies actually put on their vests (e.g. "paddling") and the information NPS provides about vest requirements.

Much improved from the last time I was down it - don't see those two deep 'trenches' It did look like someone took a couple of the curves a tad fast in the wet though. An enjoyable video with some nice memory wakeups
