I've had my bamboo flooring for 5 years. I also have a 60 pound dog. There is no scratches and it still looks new. I am so happy with my choice

Any way to stop the creaking, cracking sound when walking on it?? We didnt install it, so i have no idea if they leveled the concrete prior to laying.

Hi Christen, new installations can have a bit of crackling sound as you walk across the floor. It is fairly common as the new floor planks are getting acquainted with their neighboring planks. Over time two things will happen, the sounds will begin to dissipate and your brain will begin to ignore the sound and then 6 or 8 months down the road you'll remember to keep an ear out for it and you'll realize that it's pretty much gone. That's how it went for me at least. Now, at 50 years of age, after decades of skateboarding, the only cracking noises I hear are coming from my poor joints. Best.

If you have OSB and have to fill in large dips or use leveling compound, you are in for a rude awakening. Only leveling compound that I can find for OSB that is available is Levelquick RS. It requires you lay a lath mesh though. And 1.5 inch a pour. If you need something that doesn't flow. Then the only products I can find are.Ardex feather finish and Henry 549. What's the problem there? The Ardex can be hard to impossible to find at a store. You will likely have to mail order it. The Henry is available at some stores. So you'll just use one or the other? Well it gets worse. These two products come in small quantities. The Ardex comes in 10 lbs and the Henry comes in 7 lbs. So you'll just order what you need? Well it gets even more worse. These products are EXPENSIVE! They cost more than the 40 lb bags of stuff that work only on plywood. If you just have a small area then there are small tubs of ready made fillers.

1:40 You should run the planks with the tongue against the longest wall. This tutorial did the opposite and ran them along the short wall. A long run will look much better and make the room feel wider.

Extremely hard to install Cali vinyl. If it’s your first time you might want to try something else first. Because they were so much more money than everything else I thought it would be the best option because I assumed the quality was much better but it turned out to be a bad decision for my first time. The butt joints are not very good either.

Real wood is much more rigid, I'd expect significantly less bend. Apples to oranges though as real wood has all that pesky upkeep.

I have a baby grand piano in the room i am considering removing the rug and installing bamboo flooring. Would I have to consider a different option if I wanted to keep the piano in this room?

Bamboo is an ideal floor type for installations with heavy things on the floor due to its hardness and resistance to denting, you'll just want to glue down the flooring instead of floating the floor. A floated floor needs to expand and contract with seasonal changes and heavy objects impede this process so gluing it down will be your best bet. There's a few ridiculous claims though, like 500lb limit on furniture. Any type of solid wood armoire with books in it will be heavier than 500lbs so I don't know how that's even realistic.

Hi, thanks for the comment. It just means the floating method is not ideal if you have heavy furniture. The weight will inhibit proper expansion and contraction. In this case, you would want to nail down (T&G) or glue down (Click-lock) the flooring.

I understand the instructions for the first two rows, but I don’t understand the reason for having to “stagger” these rows. It seems like you could ensure appropriate spacing and length without this different process for the first two rows. What’s the reason? Thanks.

While you could install it end to end row after row, the stagger technique shown here helps ensure the first two rows are absolutely straight. If your first two rows are even the slightest bit not straight, it has a compounding effect for subsequent rows. The stagger technique has you locking together longer edges (rather than just the ends of the planks) which reduces the chances of thinks getting wonky.

Some of our floors lay left to right, while some lay right to left, but once you determine which direction it wants to go, it's the same general process either way.

Wait. What? No...heavy furniture? On the floor? Which is ..typically where the heavy furniture goes? I went from being about to buy this to wondering why anyone would buy this in a single slide. Can't use it for kitchens due to cabinets, living space due to bookshelves, or bedrooms due to closets/armoires. This is...utterly baffling. Sounds like it's only use is for a model home that nobody actually lives in.

This floor is a nightmare to install. Avoid getting it. Bought for my house about 2 years ago and hated the process. Now some of the planks are not staying together either.

I hesitate a nail or staple down directly to OBS, it doesn't have the holding power of plywood and any give in the boards will cause a squeak and board movement. The original builder of our home laid down a 3/8 plywood underpayment over the 3/4 OSB sub floor under the section of hard wood and its solid
