It looks wonderful but the script is appalling and the casting of Napoleon is all wrong. Frankly it’s a boring movie.

What's your opinion about the role and importance of Friends in Leave the world behind?🤔

Napoleon was energetic, intelligent, charismatic and until he started ailing, dashingly handsome and fashionable for the time. Joachim Phoenix looked tired, worn out and bored and delivered his awful dialogue like he was reading the news, whilst looking half the time like he needed a bath. 'I found the crown of France in the gutter and placed it atop my own head'. He sounds like Paul Robeson on dope! Contrast this line with Rod Steiger's delivery: kzbin.info/www/bejne/r37Sc6aerdqap7M THAT'S how you play Napoleon.

I've said it a million times, and I'll never get tired of saying it: Ridley Scott Ceased to Exist After Directing the Movie "Robin Hood" (2010). Every subsequent memory of him is a product of the current decline of the Hollywood film industry. Greetings from Argentina🇦🇷
@sinema225 ай бұрын
He's definitely one of the best directors. Although he didn't do great recently.

A relatively *"recent" movie about Hitler* was indeed made two decades ago: you must watch *"Downfall"* (Der Untergang, 2004), starring Bruno Ganz, and featuring the likes of Alexandra Maria Lara, Heino Ferch, and Thomas Kretschmann.

I wanted to watch it for a long time. I'll watch it soon.

I think Ridley Scott was trying to make a negative movie about populist leaders because of Trump. Unfortunately this depiction of Napoleon is appalling and inaccurate. Choosing Napoleon as your Trump surrogate is asinine. Napoleon was a genius. A promoter of Science , culture, philosophy. He rewrote France's laws and the Napoleonic Code is still in force in some form in almost 120 different countries. He was a military genius and very adept politically. There were six different European Coalitions that formed against him and only two of them finally managed to defeat him. He redrew the map of Europe and was responsible for the acceleration of the unification f Germany and Italy. Napoleon was 26 years old when he met the 32 year old Josephine. Joaquin was too old to play Napoleon even at waterloo.
@sinema225 ай бұрын
I'm not sure about Trump theory. We can't compare Napoleon to anyone. Napoleon was unique. As you said, he's a genius and depiction of him could have been much better.

At the end of the movie, it shows how many deaths Napoleon caused. It's true, but Ridley Scott just wanted to destroy Napoleon's character. Of course that's how I think. What do you think? 🤔
@Zeca.5 ай бұрын
Ridley deserved some good spank for that movie
@bsaneil5 ай бұрын
Actually, Napoleon did not cause all these deaths. Almost all his wars were declared against him and his campaigns were fought with a defensive purpose. The monarchies of Russia, Prussia, Britain and Austria wanted to topple him because they found his meritocratic views threatening.
@sinema225 ай бұрын
@bsaneil Yes, of course. I'm saying Ridley Scott shows it like that.
@Zeca.5 ай бұрын
@@bsaneil Not his Meritocracy, but the threat to the crown (proved by the later support of the revolution) and his aggressiveness (also proven by the revolution) were more than enough

Nice video. Adore this movie and had not heard the story about Emma's hair color. Your English is good, but I had to slow down the playback speed. Do they teach you to speak so fast? - I've noticed this with other ESL speakers and truly curious. I shouldn't be critical, I only speak English.

Thank you for your comment. I'll try to speak slower in my next videos. No, they don't teach us to speak fast. It's up to the person talking. Again, thank you.😉👍I'll do my best to be better.🔥

It's such a profoundly spectacular piece of art!! Were you surprised by Willem Defoe's SAG nomination over Mark Ruffalo?? Me, I'm so happy to see Willem get some recognition for his ALWAYS solid performances, even if it's less showy here than in some of his others, and for sure it's sad it has to be at Mark's expense ... there's just soooo much competition this year for those nominations!!!
@sinema225 ай бұрын
Willem Defoe is an underrated actor and he definitely deserves more. Ruffalo is the same, honestly he didn't have great choices. Between them; I'll chose Willem Defoe.
