I think this is a fad. A good quality, properly serviced tape deck is designed to pull all kinds of cassette tape through the transport, If you are having speed variations and stoppages, take my advice and just rewind and FF the tape a few times. This will re-spool the tape neatly and solve most issues without contaminating the heads and rollers of your player. I speak from 55 years experience in hi fi and being a retired chemistry teacher.
@grips33comСағат бұрын
Thanks for your feedback, but sometimes the tape itself is the problem and "smack the tape" rewind etc does not help to improve sound quality on "old" tapes. This is proven to work. You should not lubricate with your main deck. The tape must dry. I have now multiple cassette tapes that sound much better after 3 months, even more. If you have a problem with wow and fluttering most of the time, it's the pinch roller. Cassette deck and cassette tapes problems are not the same.

As Q tips are sort of oval shaped and may not make even contact with the tape, I use a small fragment of soft cloth which I attach over the tape using a fine rubber band. This is then wet with a little silicone spray before inserting into a cassette player and the tape run from reel to reel twice. The tape must then be allowed to dry out thoroughly before playing. That way you will not get silicone on the parts of the cassette player. The cassette head does not make contact with the tape during FF or RW. Using a drill to move the tape could spell disaster as the power of the drill could cause it to snap off from the spool at the end.
@grips33comАй бұрын
Always use another cassette player is recommended when doing this with pure cotton Q Tip that is not Oval. Drill is most likely too strong and not recommended. Always let the silicone dry properly before playing, and if it comes on tape head's, pinch roller or capstan. Just clean it with Isopropyl alcohol. Watch other videos i have about this process.

You said to press reverse - I expect you wanted to say rewind? Anyway I would not try it - silicon is not drying agent and wil permanently affect friction between tape , rubber rollers and axes. In most cases faulty tape tape is molded and this should be to be washed and wiped dry.
@grips33com2 ай бұрын
You said to press reverse - I expect you wanted to say rewind? Yes It's actually proven to work, and it's being used as a lubricant in almost all cassette tapes that you buy. Just get the Wet version, Not the dry version of Silicone spray. Silicone will leave a protective film after it dries. It can in some cases bring the tape back to its original state, and play much better with an improvement of sound quality! Thanks for your input!

No, it will not ruin it, but it is important to lubricate the tape with silicone so it will be protected for a long time in the future and even against molds.

The alcohol on the tape doesn't hurt it? Tape sure looks WAY better. Also, what do you think about that cassette player ( other than using it for things like this )? Perform ok?

Alcohol is only being used because of the tape is very moldy. Don't forget that after the molds are being removed, the silicone treatment will do its job. The cassette player is not recommended. It is only being used for treatments of cassette tapes and as a rewind of tapes. :D

Ive never demagnetized my deck. I don't notice anything being affected. Should I do it anyway?
@grips33com3 ай бұрын
It depends on the deck. How its constructed. If you play and record frequently, you may never have to do it. If you have a cassette player with only Play function then you really must demagnetize so you don't erase information on the tape every time you play. Keep those tapes rolling! :D
@jasonwilliams60053 ай бұрын
@@grips33com thanks. One more question....will it affect any other components ( CD player, receiver, etc.) above or below the deck when demagnetizing?
@grips33com3 ай бұрын
If you have a demagnetize cassette, just press Play after you off the amplifier...it can create a signal that can damage amp and also your speakers. So be sure amp is Off, before you start. If its a handheld device you must do like this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oHXdn4SVa613o8Usi=1KQp_AMXscT3piuc
@marcohermans3207Ай бұрын
I'm sorry but you're giving the wrong instructions on this deck how to look at the dolby sign. It'positioned at - 2db at the meter and its corresponding to Dolby level is always 200 nWb/m. You say that the peaks are not allowed to go over this sign when recording but that has nothing to do with recording levels. The sign is only there as a calibration point for proper dolby levels. It's all in the service manual. The only thing you must watch out for is that you don't exceed the recommended recording levels for a specific tape.
@grips33comАй бұрын
Thanks for your input. And that is exactly what I am saying, and it's just a thumb rule to make recording easy with Dolby. Different modes of Dolby will give you other results on other decks. Different cassette tapes have different peak levels. You should always try to record and see what sound best to your ears. Keep on taping!

How does the silicone not end up on the head and roller?
@grips33com3 ай бұрын
You must let the Silicone dry first. For me, best results will be after 4-5 days. If it will come on pinch-roller or heads, just clean it with Isopropyl alcohol.
