The wolf is apparently supposed to be a werewolf or some kind. It completely missed what makes werewolves scary. I’ll say till the cows come home, league of legends did a werewolf better is less time, 8 years ago

For me, the one trope that just pisses me off most in Analog Horror is just mimics and doppelgangers overall. The Mandela Catalogue is the one that brought that specific kind of horror into the forefront, but MAN, there's a lot of analog horror that deals or reference mimics in some way. Vita Carnis, Basswood County, heck, even great ones like Greylock and Gemini have mimics as a part of them (even though in those last two it's done a lot better than most). Mimics can also come with the spooky face phenomenon attached to them, which is just insult to injury. That's why stuff like The Man In The Suit and Doctor Nowhere's videos feel so refreshing to watch. They actually present you with a threat that's more than just "That thing is trying to look human, uh oh"

About your evolutionary question about the uncanny valley, I think it mistakes the predatory nature of the modern application in horror with maybe a more logical explanation that facial expression is some humans specifically evolved to use a form of communication. So consider that maybe instead of it stemming from a way to detect other "entities", it may be a reflex or instinct to detect when another human is unwell. I'd venture to say this could be proven by our general discomfort toward people with disfigured faces (something that A Different Man sought to expose this year).

I feel like something people forget about older Minecraft horror is that Steve is the main character. That’s why the mimic and the anomaly use Steve as a base for most of their designs. Because like Herobrine, their essentially skin walkers. It’s like if your reflection starts staring at you. Even the old Steve mob had that same affect where it looked just like Steve but it’s slightly taller. Very unnerving. I think knocker would be more effective if it was just Steve, Alex or maybe even it could cycle around the console edition skins. Like just imagine the knocker trying to lure Steve out by using one of his console edition variants. And since it comes back different it shows Steve the knocker is trying to aggressively deceive him. That’s when the knock just opens the door and attacks Steve. Like a couple of the bad horror mods could work. Like, have siren head’s model be made to look like Minecraft trees and only have him spawn in jungles, dark oak or pale gardens. Biomes where the trees obscure the player’s over head vision so it can better blend in. It could also just be an extension of the creaking like the Root of Fear. Then when the player passes it by, it’s stops being dormant and gets ready to chase the player. Giving the player a fair shake while also scaring him. I think another way to effectively scare a player is having pillagers or evokers masquerade as wandering traders. The only thing that would trigger the attack would be if the player successfully trades with the wandering trader, then after a few seconds they’d get chased In your world imo does a great job scaring but I think it would be more effective if it just used Herobrine as the model and took out that other weird model that just doesn’t really fit Minecraft

never really watched it, but i saw what it had to offer and never understood why it was so popular. in my opinion, even though have not watched it, i thought it’d just be another analog horror take on something, and the take was inspired by fnaf. i never got around to watching bc, from what i could tell, it had nothing new to offer, and it was just another one of those walten files/fnaf inspired videos.

When humans first evolved to our modern species, we lived surrounded by other species of human-like apes, such as neanderthals. Thus, the uncanny valley instinct is likely a survival tactic built into us for our own safety. Being able to determine something is wrong at a single glance could mean the difference between life or death. Edit: I should have read the comments first lol but either way, it's fun to speculate why everyone has similar instincts.

Honestly while i can appreciate the bodycam footage and the phone call, it doesn't make me enjoy urbanspook at all. Honestly it makes me hate his series more because it shows he HAS talent, but chooses to waste it on literal depictions of csa and z0ophilia. The fact he used autism as an insult during his crashout just makes me not want to support him more. Like, seriously you could take out all of the parts of the series that involve animals and kids/babies being killed or sexually abused and you still have the same concept he was going for. It isn't the fact that he's depicting stuff that does happen in real life, i can actually appreciate he's doing that and not going the scary monster route. It's the fact that he involves children and animals that makes me hate it. While this does happen with a lot of real life killers, THERE IS A REASON PEOPLE DON'T DEPICT IT IN FICTIONAL KILLERS AND THIS IS THAT REASON.

Alfred Hitchcock explained how to do all of this with his bomb under the table theory in 1970. I thought the theory was just common sense but Minecraft horror mods make me think otherwise. 55 years later and the best we can do when modifying a sandbox game with already infinite possibilities is this?

Everything that's suppose to be a lore reveal just feels like a lore dump. Idrk how to describe it but it feels like every bit of important lore revealed feels...forced and ongoing, like when The Dead Rabbit just having a deep dive into explaining what The Wolf does to his victims or when The Wolf's freed soul explained how it came to be in such detail. It doesn't feel natural to the story and just the creator connecting the dots for us. But ofc I don't hate Foxymations. I think he's a nice guy! I hope this video opens up a door for him where he can improve his projects and potentially reach star status.

Humans instinctively fear snakes and spiders, Snakes because they were the top predator of practically all ancestors of monkies and apes when they were tree dwelling for millions of years. Spiders because they they are the most common lethally venomous creature encountered after snakes. And for the uncanny valley? Predatory monkies, and apes that were not of the same species. Similar in structure but different enough to instill a gut wrenching fear of the familiar.

nah the most annoying trope in horror is the PG-13 "entity" that does nothing at all for 60min. If it is an incorporeal being such as a ghost, or demon or something like that the entire movie is just a boring slog where nothing of substance happens. Nobody is in danger until the last 30min of the movie. I blame The Conjuring and Insidious primarily, and partially Paranormal activity for popularizing this style of horror film making. No it is not a "slow burn", nothing is even "burning", it is luke-warm at best, you're boring me. Most horror movies are also split up into very predictable segments. Horror movies also typically are only horror movies for like half the movie's runtime, the "horror" part comes in 10ish minute intervals in-between 15-20min of nothing spooky happening. I've never seen a horror movie where the feeling of horror/dread/unsettling atmosphere has been a constant factor. You need more than "unsettling" noises and unexplainable bruising, or somewhat increasingly weird behavior, and things moving around by themselves every 20min or so, to make a horror movie scary. The people in the movie actually need to be in real danger the majority of the time, and I need to fear for the people in the movie, make me believe they can get hurt or die any minute. The whole "fear of the unknown" doesn't work anymore either when they're just using all the same tired old tricks every other "fear of the unknown" movie pulls. It is boring as hell. Don't get me started on the PG-13 "monster movies" where every kill is simply implied with a pan to side, followed by a scream, and a bloodspatter on the wall, and scenes so dark you can only barely notice movement..

Honestly, I feel as if Minecraft horror mods need some sort of new thing that shows them "oh yeah, THIS is how you do horror". While I'm no genius at modding (in fact, I don't even know what resources to use for modding custom enemies into Minecraft), there's been one mod that's been heavily on my mind for about a couple months that's inspired by one of my favorite horror monsters ever. And if I had the capacity to do it (or find someone who knows how to), I would do it in a heartbeat.

It hasn’t lost its touch it’s working as intended (im not saying that’s a hood thing tho) you can tell at this point , the creators are just taking from eachother. Mandela catalogue and local 58 gets a pass since they’re literally the pioneers of the genre.

99% are terrible. The only good ones are the few that try to be interesting with the AI like the original cave dweller and one of the revamped ones (not the ones that use that goofy toothy model, but rather the original model, yes its not creepy, but it matches the world a little better).
