duuuuude this so fucking sick to hear about. in 2020 i was interested in van life but never committed to doing it. kept seeing your pics and posts on IG over the years and it’s always inspiring as aesthetically pleasing. getting to hear the behind the scenes and your experiences for that year was super dope, especially that moment when you’re at the sand dunes and how it built confidence. love everything you’re doin, hope to see more of your posts 🫶

I just bought a XE2 for $360 with a battery and charger. Was in NYC three weeks ago and saw on Craigslist aXE2 for $300. Bummed out I paid too much. $85 for this body was a steal. You bought this camera at Glazers? Good job. I too am looking for a small and lightweight body. The XE bodies are like smaller XPRO bodies. I just put the 27pancake on the body. I’m still getting used to it. So far so good. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)

How much height room you got after gutting and redoing the ceiling? I bought the same van. And I'm wondering how much more I can get. Also was the wiring in place that came with factory hard to maneuver?
@stedalejandro
@stedalejandro Жыл бұрын
I’m 5’9 and I was still able to stand kinda comfortably. Just had to turn my neck a little haha and no it wasn’t really. I basically just cut all the wires that were visible and then tied them up with electric tape and pushed it under the carpet and in some little holes I could find. All taped up tho so that it was safe.

I've got the same van and just starting to undergo the build (mine is a 1998 GMC Explorer edition) I'm glad YT showed me this video on my homepage! I purchased the van with low miles and little mechanical problems, and so far, I've ripped all the nice conversion interior out (was a shame, they really are nicely built from the factory by hand), filled in the floor holes and rust proofed it, laid down kilmat for the floor, and I'm in the middle of deleting the rear heater/ac which I'm still undergoing and need to get the right parts to plug the lines and return the air. I have questions on the rear heater delete work if you'd like to, I'd love to know if you did this and/or what part numbers you used? Looking forward to seeing more of your videos!

You can just Zone focus with it and forget the rangefinder on it. 300 bucks , ouch. You sure give this camera a lot of props but say You're going to sell it and lose 93 bucks on the deal. The mju cameras are loud and more like a toy. They both take nice photos but the XA has special cooler kind of look to the pictures. Let us know if you regret it later.

Nice. Gd luck. For the bed, go to goodwill rehab store and for $10-$15 bucks, you can get a bed frame. Most metal frames adjust from twin to full or king. I did mine side to side and just drilled holes and put screws in for enforcement. Also, bought a jeep spair tire holder from ebay for $45 and reinforced the inside of my back door with left over Angel iron from bed frame and attached spare tire to back door. Been over 4 years and no issues.

Don't be so disheartened. Range-Finder photography is not for everyone. With this film revival malarky, a lot of people are buying Leica Ms, invariably pushing Leica prices even higher than they already are, but I am absolutely sure not even 10% of them know what it can or can not do. They just buy them as a sign of credibility, it gets viewers on You Tube. I have three of this style of cameras, a couple of Minox and a Rollei 35S. The lenses are outstanding but they are in the end pocket cameras from the early 70s. When I am really serious about using film, which is quite often, then the Leicas, Nikon F3s and F4s and the Hasselblads come out. Other than that it is digital for me. I think that you have made the right decision in passing it on.
@stedalejandro

For sure, I enjoy shooting with a rangefinder. That doesn’t bother me. I actually just picked up an F3 and I’ve been loving it. Just got the zeiss planar 50mm 1.4 as well so I’m excited to shoot that combo together for my serious work. I’ve been using the 28mm e series lens from Nikon just cause I found it in good condition at a camera store

A video by a classic victim of the hype the XA has driven for a few years. It's small. light (all plastic), and has a lens which is terrible compared to its alternatives. The view finder is dim, making the rangefinder almost useless. It's a good camera for vacation snaps. It's worthless as a primary photography tool. Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it. As the production of the XA ended in 1985, and driven by a hot collectables market in Japan, the used XA price went from $60 to $175-250. The Japanese market collapsed, and dealers/collectors were left holding tons of used XAs they couldn't sell for more than $40-50. Since the user has no control over the exposure(you pick the aperture; the camera picks the shutter speed), it's not a learning tool for beginners. Somewhat surprising that someone who knows enough to use a Pentax 645 would be sucked in like that.
@atroche1978
@atroche1978 3 жыл бұрын
You may be correct in all that you say, but it's still a cool little camera to own, even if it sits on a shelf. 😂
@stedalejandro
@stedalejandro 3 жыл бұрын
For sure, we all learn eventually. The unfortunate part is the information you just gave me was no where to be found online. It seems like everyone deemed it as a great camera without talking much of its downsides as well as its history in the market. I’m actually thinking about grabbing a mamiya 6 sometime this year. Do you have any insight on that camera?
@appleshampoo324
@appleshampoo324 3 жыл бұрын
@@stedalejandro Don't rely to much on this guy's negative comment. Yeah the XA has it's flaws but there is no 1 camera to rule them all. If you're a beginner, start with a camera that is cheap like a point and shoot (that AF- is perfect) + an SLR that can go full manual. And from that you can learn and understand what you really want in a camera. They are all just light tight boxes so the only thing that matters for image quality is the available lenses, the right film for the right moment (not using tungsten based cinestill on a super bright day for example) and most importantly knowing which light and settings will give the results you want. I mean if you can't take a good photo with a cheap SLR or point and shoot than you won't miraculously take good photo's with an expensive one. I do think it's good that you said why you didn't like the XA, that's a step forward in knowing what you DO want but that doesn't mean the XA is a bad camera like this guy think it is, it's just not for you or him and that's ok.
@stedalejandro
@stedalejandro 3 жыл бұрын
@@appleshampoo324 I agree with you 100% I bought it impulsively when I wanted a basic point and shoot so it’s a lesson learned. The Olympus Infinity we got is great btw and takes great images. Im picking up a Nikon f3 and keeping my mamiya 645 to continue shooting film
