Growing up in Pico Rivera in the 70s, Omega Burger on Whittier Blvd had the best pastrami dip sandwiches, extra pickles, extra mustard. And an order of onion rings that came in a old school lunch brown bag, double bagged for the grease absorption.

Love some pastrami, mustard and pickles in a sub. My most fond memory if pastrami was that sub they gave away for free in L.A county parks as some sort of parks and rec program around 1997.

Arry's is amazing!!! Their Carne Asada burrito to die for. They also have good salads.

There's a small chain in Orange County called Athena Burger that has a killer pastrami. Not sure how many of them are still around. I haven't been to one in 15 or 20 years and haven't found any quite as good. Tom's Burger (a sizable LA chain) comes close but not quite. Golden Star is pretty good, too. Those are both burger joint pastramis. For.deli pastramis, Desimone's in Huntington Beach, Santa Fe Importers in Long Beach, Handy Market in Burbank, all excellent. Actually, you could probably do a whole series just on Burbank... Giamelo's, Santoro's, Tony's, Original Tony's, Handy Market, Omega Burger, Norm's Burger, Lancer, and more I'm sure... so many good spots in that little town.

I live in Tokyo and grew up in Southern California in the 70s … I grew up eating pastrami sandwiches at my neighborhood burger joint in Torrance similar to Arrs called Ynot Burgers… which was the owners name Tony spelled backwards. I went to college in Pasadena and fell in love with The Hat and a pastrami with large onion rings was one of my favorite go to’s… prices have definitely gone up. There was another place in LA off of Olympic near La Cienega that served a pastrami foot long hot dog wrapped in two ginormous flour tortillas that was almost embarrassing to order but it was delicious. The pastrami is one of those things I miss about eating in LA. Dude, you need to nix the word “cali” but enjoyed the video tremendously. Arigato!

When I was a kid, my grandma would buy two pastramis from the Hat, take them home, undo them and heat up the meat again in pan with some water. She would buy rolls for .25 cents at her bakery and make 5 sandwiches for our whole family

The Kare Kare is not unique that it has the oxtail (that is common) . The Kare Kare dipping sauce you had at Tatangs was the unique one.

Eastside Italian Deli in Downtown L.A. is another great spot for pastrami sandwiches.

Canters Deli. Pastrami on Jewish rye. Love Johnnie’s a better roll than The Hat. Johnnie’s also served onion rings with yellow mustard, never had that before, that’s mega. Regardless I love all these places. Same with hamburgers and tacos, whatever spin these great people in the food business have, my hats off to them.
