You're still telling in your showing examples. One example is when you say don't tell us Sarah is angry and then immediately tell us Sarah's voice is trembling with anger instead of letting the reader infer on their own that she's angry based on what you show. Don't tell the reader a characters emotional state, let them see it in their behavior.

Thanks for your insight! I totally see what you mean. My goal with that example was to help beginners find a middle ground between showing and telling, since fully showing emotion through behaviour alone can be a bit advanced for those just starting out. Here's example of showing using dialogue: Telling: She was angry. Showing: Her hands clenched into fists, and her jaw tightened as she glared at him. 'How could you do this?' she spat, her voice laced with venom. Here is another example: Telling: She was unsure whether to accept the job offer. Showing: Her gaze flickered away for a moment before she forced a smile. 'It's an interesting opportunity,' she said, her voice lacking its usual enthusiasm. There are also many other examples in the video that lean more toward pure showing, where I focus on characters’ actions and descriptive details to reveal emotions. Appreciate your feedback, and I’ll keep this in mind as I create future content!

can we get a better generator? Lafaias Aleanathem sounds stupid and unwieldy.

I appreciate your honesty! Naming can be subjective, and I get that Lafaias Aleanathem might not be for everyone. I'll look into improving the generator for future videos. In the meantime, what kind of names do you think would work better?

It's nice to have an advanced vocabulary, but most people dont understand the words provided in the example. Wouldn't that also be a cause for a reader to lose interest and look elsewhere? Using big words almost makes it seem like a totally different language of text.
@imagineforest
@imagineforest 3 ай бұрын
Thank you for your comment! You’re absolutely right! Word choice should always be tailored to the target audience. Advanced vocabulary could suit a novel for older readers or a more specialised audience, where such language enhances the depth and sophistication of the text (i.e. horror or sci-fi novels aimed at adults). However, for a general audience or younger readers, it's important to use simpler, more straightforward language to ensure that the message is clear and engaging. Striking the right balance between rich vocabulary and accessibility helps keep the reader interested and ensures the writing is both impactful and understandable.

I totally agree that anything can generate a story idea. Some of my book ideas have come from combinations of favorite books, ads for video games, fan-fiction for an old comic strip, thumbnails for videos that I have not watched... you get the point. In fact, all of those ways that I mentioned are from personal experience and my writing projects. Pretty cool, huh?

@imagineforest Thanks. The type of prologue I'm writing is a flashback prologue. It doesn't focus on the main protagonist but instead a side character who witnesses a catastrophe which is later revealed to be inexplicably linked to the main plot and storyline.

Thanks for your comment! You're right-there's no one-size-fits-all approach to writing a picture book. My video covers 18 steps that can help guide the process, but every writer has their own unique method. The key is to find what works best for you and your creative process. 🙂
