Hold on when you said one has a job and the other doesn't can have insurance. Let say husband has disability from S.S, LTD and pension. Wife doesn't work. Will apply for Disability S.S this year. Their income is in the $14k do taxes together. Wife doesn't qualify for insurance. In 2024 they qualify in the margins $20k, now they don't. Only at $21k? When I do my taxes as self-employed my income is $17k after expenses I qualify in the $14k. I am sooooo confused now.

I'll never choose Ambetter again. They don't pay hardly anything out and deny straight away. I've been denied pretty much every imiging service my Dr and surgeon has requested until I jump through their hoops. Currently I need a MRI on my back and it has been denied until I do PT which I and my surgeon know will not help. Result, sitting at home in excruciating pain.

@CuspideInsurance Apparently not a good one. I found myself unemployed and an insurance rep recommended one that was free with tax credit. They now want me to pay over $700 a month for the same plan. I'd be better off putting that $700 in the bank for medical emergencies. Oh and just a side note, my cardiologist is not going to be accepting Ambetter in the new year, that's got to tell you something. The name Ambetter is actually laughable, they should change it to Amworse.

Hey Carlos, thank you for explaining all of this, but one key piece of information seems to be missing. I understand that if I end up earning more than I claim, I will owe back the difference in advance tax credits when filing federal taxes, as we don’t have state taxes here in Florida. However, will they retroactively adjust plan benefits like deductibles or copays, or do they only reconcile tax credit? As you pointed out, depending on the income, not only do the premium and tax credit amounts change, but the overall pricing for the plan can change as well. So, in reality, would it be advantageous to always underestimate income to secure lower plan prices (deductibles, coinsurance, etc.) and only be liable for the federal tax credit difference, or am I misunderstanding something?

Well the reconciliation process only affects the advance premium tax credits, not your plan benefits like deductibles or copay because they stay the same for the coverage year. While underestimating income might secure higher credits or cost-sharing reductions upfront, you’ll need to repay any excess premium tax credits at tax time, which are subject to caps. Intentionally underestimating income could result in large repayments and some penalties. The best thing to do is to estimate your income as accurately as possible and update it if your income changes during the year.

@@CuspideInsurance Hey Carlos, thank you for the quick response. I think the estimation part is quite impractical, as for most self-employed people, the only honest answer is, "I don't know." My income could range anywhere between $20k and $100k, depending on numerous factors and the job market. You mentioned "some penalties" - could you please clarify that? My understanding is that it’s better to provide a lower, good-faith estimate based on the current situation rather than a higher estimate based on hypotheticals. My reasoning is that if I end up repaying the tax credit due to being above 400% of the poverty level, it indicates I’ll have the means to pay it, and, as you mentioned, the repayment is also capped.

No matter how much you use the plan, you are still getting the premium tax credit so at the end of the year, whatever your income was will be the one that counts.

Most plans don't really have that coinsurance. It is just a fixed fee of copays.

Horrible but like most corporations today. This company is just a way to steal money from people with no legal consequences or oversight. You will only ever get to push buttons on your phone and some third world person paid a dollar an hour to get you off the phone. I could list all the ways they steal from us. Watch out for rewards programs. Never take the debit card. they will take the money out if you don't use it right away. even though the expiration is way off. This is a minor thing but to illustrate if I take money out of someone's account after i gave them the money they would let bubba molest me in prison while Justice is served to the lowly peasant.

Yes but that is with every company in the marketplace. If you look at customer reviews they are all bad. Usually people only leave reviews if it is to vent about something bad. No one goes out of their way to write a good review so most of them will be negative.

Look into plans that are accepted by the hospital you will have surgery in. The most important number to look at is the out-of-pocket maximum. So are you basically screwed either way? Like how do you know excatly how much money you are excatly going to make? What about if you get over time what about if your hours get cut? What about if you get holiday pay? I put 39000 as a rough estimate on my application and now its halfway through the year and i have already made 22,500 and now i am scared because i didnt know i was going to work this much i didnt know 6 plus people were going to quit at my job and i would have to be working 13 days in a row at times or having to stay late at times to help finish. Now i have had to ask my boss to cut my hours because of this. Thank you for explaining though I was freaking out about how much money I was going to owe i thought it was going to be a lot more because when I first did my application before I got my raise I estimated my income to be like 35,000 because I was only getting like 32 to 35 hours a week now I am getting 40 plus!

Well it is all based on estimated income. Also, if you have income changes you can always update the application and change the income a bit so the ending number is as close as possible to what you really made.

Worst insurance EVER, and I’m close to retirement- useless customer service. Nightmare calls, 2 hrs on call, 2 hungups and nothing resolved for two months. It doesn’t have bad reviews because they are new insurance name, so no reviews. The wellness rewards was all bs. I did it and then they could not even find the records of me doing, wasted time talking to nurse and answering personal questions. I will never use it again and never promote it as good. Run from it.
