Fantastic video, and a fantastic track (probably Shadow's best IMO)! That Nuremburg Ring sample is so good in the mix, must be one of my favourite Shadow samples.

Another entertaining video. I remember reading that keyboard magazine interview with him from 1997. It’s easy to find online, great reading. Here’s what he said about High Noon - My new song is called "High Noon," a single for England, and it’s the hardest song I’ve ever done, bar none. The drum chops on that song take up 64 pads on the MPC-3000, and then more on another disk. So almost 100 pads on the drums alone, and that’s why the song was so difficult. I think when you hear it, hopefully you’ll like it. It’s a drum song.

So cool to see you back!!! I was wondering if we'd ever see a breakdown of Shadow's beat for Blackalicious' Swan Lake? I recently did a remake myself (with a few samples missing here and there) and thought it would be perfect for one of these videos with how it samples 6 versions of People Make the World Go Round (maybe more? the original stylistics sample wasn't listed on whosampled)

Great work as always! Do you know, by any chance, where the voice from the intro to the High Noon single comes from? You know, the one that goes: You, are going to rock and roll. And you can hardly wait for the music to begin. When it happens, you will become a part of that music...

Sorry, I couldn't find any info on where the single into sample came from. Maybe someone else will chime in with an answer.

The discordant nature of the mix does make it a bit unnerving to listen to, but I love the way the groove brings it all together.

This is an awesome breakdown! Here is the thing I LOVE Orion by Metallica and I LOVE The Number Song but I was today years old when I found out is was sampled. How did I not hear that?
@TheTigersfan2016 күн бұрын
Great job redrawing the Shadow! You absolutely nailed the drums, not an easy thing to do since the sample is spread out so unevenly. One thing I learned was that for the Heath Bros sample, he used a method called “out of phase stereo” to really isolate those keys. I’ve experimented trying to remake this song myself with FL Studio, and discovered that by mistake lol I’ll never forget hearing this song for the first time in November 2008. I was really feeling the vibe of the keys, then the drums came in and I absolutely magnetized! I still think this is his best song.
@KarlBoltzmann14 күн бұрын
Interesting tidbit about the out of phase method that he used. I will have to look in to that, thanks. For me, the drums in building steam will be that unforgettable moment. This album is simply a top tier classic.

How do u find ur own samples
@KarlBoltzmann21 күн бұрын
The way I produce my music is to play and record my own instruments/vocals and use those recordings as samples. But if I was looking to find things to sample, I would use YT or any other source of archival videos/sounds and sample things from there.

I appreciate that coming from another drummer, thanks! Building Steam is one of the tracks that inspired me to play the drums and also learn how to record them. It's still one of the most unique sounding drum kit recordings I've heard.
