Nice guide, however it is not clear that the only filter you remove is both UV and IR filters, or those are two separate ones?

6:30 , hi, here you say "use 0.5mm shims to move sensor to the back" are you sure?? some people say remove the existing shims to move sensor closer to the lens! which one helps with the focus to infinity problem? i know i can accurately adjust the focusing from the bottom (for Nikon), and it works well for close distance, but it doesn't focus to infinity any more

No shims are required for full-spectrum cameras; extra shims are needed for infrared cameras.

Not in this video. The camera was out of focus. It is nothing special, just cut the tape and stick it to the sensor.

Each camera needs slightly different washers or shims. Sometimes the difference is small so can be disregarded.

On RED DSMC2 cameras you just have to use a special OLPF filter, changed in 30 sec.

protip for people trying this, use silicone/nitrile gloves to avoid fingerprints and reduce dangers of shocks. Dust and fingerprints so close to the sensor affect a lot of pixels in your image

@@BurbsiAll gloves leave dust, whether they are powder-free or not. If you touch a sensor with gloves, you need to clean it-period. The moment anything is touched with gloves, it ceases to be "dust-free."

@@RemusLt well you're the one taking cameras apart - i don't have any experience in that, so arguing against you does not make sense. I just thought gloves might make it easier in terms of fingerprints and shocks. Dust seems to be way trickier. Also silicone gloves are not a thing.. unless for working with high temperatures. I mixed up silicone with latex and even then latex is not recommended. So i was completely wrong. If golves then nitrile would be the way to go. Apparently even people in cleanrooms wear them, theirs are just made up to way higher standards, are non shedding and get many treatments...
