@@jurysummons2194 I was surprised to see several locks opened on each end. Leland Bowman and the Calcasieu Locks are to prevent salt water intrusion. I’m guessing the tidal flow was moving back towards the Gulf. The Locks are staffed 24/7. @@UnderwayDriftingNDreaming I searched for years (over 5) for loop videos. Very few and most only did a couple. Sam & Rev on what yacht to do were the1st to actually complete. Then I think the 2023 crowd really put videos out. So I watch any I can find now, even if they're hard to watch. :(

@@johnmarschalk1977 I noticed more Great Loop content starting in 2023. Wished I had watched more. There was so much to do in the Georgian Bay that we missed. I really enjoyed watching Cool Beans since they were a few weeks in front of us coming down the River System. I knew what to expect and look for.

@@UnderwayDriftingNDreaming They have a dock and launch at Avery Island, but it is small and more to just launch your boat. There is a larger docking for the owners that live on Avery Island. You might can try to contact the island and see if they can help you. The entrance to the island is manned during the day so you should be able to reach someone. It is defiantly worth a visit. We live near by and have been a few times.

Thanks for watching. We wanted to be a South Shore since we are familiar with the area. Though we couldn’t get an answer about the channel and depth going into the marina. Drawing 5ft, we were a little concerned. We are over in Waterford. Very protected from the wind though it’s shallow at low tide.

The boat behind us is called a buddy boat. We meet them in Northern Michigan at a marina where we were weathered out a storm for a week then headed south to the next marina in September. We meet up with them again in early December. They were headed to Texas so we traveled together from Houma, LA to Kemah, TX. Our longest buddy boat was 50 days traveling down the River System from Michigan City, IN to Orange Beach, AL Thanks for watching.

The fuel price is low because of the location near the refinery.This location riofuelsupply.com is a high volume source providing to tug boats and offshore boats. They probably go through tens of thousands of fuel a day. We used their smallest fuel hose. They have massive hoses for the big boats. You can use a quart mason jar to check “Clear Bright”. Physically looking at the fuel before pumping into the tanks. We always fuel at high volume source. The fuel dock at the GA/FL portconsolidated.com we saved money by paying with a check and then no taxes if you’re leaving Florida after fueling.

No, the locks are in operation 24/7 with a lot of commercial traffic moving through the locks it’s best to head to a marina or anchorage. These are the places we stopped at Going down the River We stayed in Illinois at: Joliet Free Wall, Joliet Heritage Harbor Marina,Ottawa Henry Harbor Marina, Henry Kuchie's on the Water, Peoria Havana Anchorage Logsdon Tow Service, Beardstown Willow Island Anchorage Illinois Riverdock Restaurant Mel’s Diner Hardin While we were in Canada we stayed on the walls along the lock wall on the Trent Severn Waterway with a purchase of a mooring pass.

It is an AIT2000 class B AIS transponder. It has a dedicated GPS and VHF antenna though no WiFi

The bridges along the loop are amazing. The older railway bridges over the Mississippi were stunning.

Yes AIS. It has been wonderful to have especially on the river and lately on the Gulf Intracoastal with limited visibility due to fog.

@@stanwalls6434 Jim’s a few years from being a senior. We were walking back to the boat after exploring the waterfall. He was busy taking pictures and didn’t notice the sign. These signs were put in place to protect the seniors on long road crossings. Canada watching out for us.

I love the Gulf Coast beaches. We did ride our bikes from the Wharf Marina. Great bike trails to the beach too. The surf was incredible that day so we just watched the waves from the boardwalk. Beautiful!

@@UnderwayDriftingNDreaming and on the same topic, Bayou La Batre is located on the west side of the bay. It was the featured city in the movie. I was born there an lived there for 23 years. Moved to Mobile and have lived there for last 25 years.

@ we will need to visit Bayou La Batre on our way back east this Spring. We will be taking our time then heading back up the River System before hurricane season to explore the Tennessee River, Cumberland and the Tennessee Tombigbee Waterway.

I’m sure you crossed over the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway. Wowza you were in the bayou in Cocodrie. That’s the end of the road. I’m sure good fishing and shrimping there.

@ three redfish 🎣 that’s so cool. Louisiana fishing is the best. We saw a sign for a tunnel in Houma just past the bridge. Never knew there was a tunnel under the river.

Boat watching is a spic past time. Miss being underway everyday. For my birthday I asked to watch the tankers and cargo ships in the Houston Ship Channel.

@@christinacainsells we had an eleven mile adventure exploring Kemah TX. The electric bikes had no issues taking us up and over the bridge in 30 knots of wind. I kept the speed between 15-18 mph. I learned not to sit while going over speed bumps. Thanks for watching. Enjoy the 🦁

Along the ICW price per foot range from $1.75 to $2.50. Plus electric fee and free pump outs. We ran from Key Biscayne to North of West Palm Beach anchorage due to prices above $9 a foot. We stayed in Connecticut for maintenance and skipped NYC. Prices decreased on the Erie Canal approximately $30. a night. The Trent Severn we paid approximately $700 for lock fees and mooring on the wall. You do need to stop at the marina to pump off for a fee. Ontario prices were less than $2.00 of foot. Michigan State marina’s range from $1-1.80 per foot. Coming down the River System approximately $1.50 or less per foot. We anchored and used free docks. Dockwa app is a great resource and Michigan State website list their marina’s prices. Key West is very expensive $4000 and up. We stayed in Stock Island. Currently in Kemah paying $800 a month. We returned to our home state since our daughter is getting married in Texas. We have found labor and maintenance jobs are less expensive than in Florida. In March I will post a year review of our Loop with all the information in the description. Marinas are the biggest expense on the loop followed by groceries.
