Regarding the galvanic isolator sheets, the stainless steel bolts holding it together bond the two pieces. Do you use some kind of insulating rings around the bolts and between the nut/bolt and the metal to break the bond? Thanks

I was taught to always allow an engine to idle for at least 1 minute after initial startup. To allow the oil to reach all bearing surfaces and stabilise. Same prior to switch off as this then allows turbos to slow down so its not running at high rpm with no lubricating oil going round the bearings.

So "keel cooling" doesn't require a "header tank" and a pressure cap and overflow/recovery tank? Or apparently even COOLANT?
@deeremeyer1749Ай бұрын
Because if there's one thing EASY TO "SOURCE" AT A SALTWATER "MARINA" ITS "FRESH WATER" IN "QUANTITY".
@deeremeyer1749Ай бұрын
Oh look. It's an IDLE TEST. Since all no-load engine operation is idling. And it PASSED. Most engine manufacturers today "discourage" engine idling that is "excessive" even when the engine is in mobile machinery and subject to some loads. But not "Cummins Marine" or at least a "Cummins Marine" distributor. Or whatever this "shop" is. Of course if the "aftercooler" needed "service" it must not be a brand-new "factory fresh" engine. Or somebody didn't properly prep the engine for storage and store it "by the book". I have to laugh at an "electronic" engine with a "manual shift" PTO clutch unit "gearbox" on it. PTO is the proper term for anything that is not a power transmission bolted on back - or front - of a "stationary engine" even if its "marinized".
@deeremeyer1749Ай бұрын
Uh...the "fresh water flush" would be MAINTENANCE. And if it was in the "owners manual" for a "DIYer" this would be SERVICE. What it actually is is a "repair".
@deeremeyer1749Ай бұрын
Every 18-degree F change in fuel temp affects horsepower by 4%. The same change in AIR temp affects horsepower by about 1%. Why in God's name would you "convert" from a fuel cooler to none?
@deeremeyer1749Ай бұрын
WD-40 loosens "salt deposits"? WD-40 is almost 100% plain old kerosene. Let's see the "fresh water flush" and a video of the boat in "normal operation". Its entirely possible that "aftercooler" is running "dry" the "not many hours" it ran in "3 years in the ocean". And you don't need to change zincs in "fresh water"? Even "fresh water" is "salt water" to some extent especially natural lakes.
@deeremeyer1749Ай бұрын
That kind of fuel consumption is associated with "450 hp" at 2000 rpm producing 20 TONS of ACTUAL "tractive force" in a farm tractor that weighs 20 tons alone.

Damn near millpond smooth and that POS pitches and rolls and wallows like it's in 5 footers, lol.

"We've repowered that boat twice". And it still doesn't run like "new". Obviously.
@deeremeyer1749Ай бұрын
Why in God's name would you ever want to "hit the governor" with a variable-speed diesel?
@deeremeyer1749Ай бұрын
Realistically it better be dead on nuts 60 Hz and a genset better not need throttled per a tach to be 60 Hz powering "hotel load". Plus or minus 2 Hz is plus or minus more than 3% and that kind of error - which affects VOLTAGE as well as frequency is unacceptable from a genset. Governor "droop" should never exceed 1%. It 60-cycle EXACTLY. NOT "APPROXIMATELY" AND SINCE ALL AC "CLOCKS" RELY ON EXACTLY 60 HZ FREQUENCY FOR "ACCURACY" AND "PRECISION" THEY WILL - NOT "CAN" OR "MAY" - RUN "FAST" OR "SLOW" ACCORDINGLY. VARIOUS "NAVIGATION AIDS" DEPEND ON PRECISE "CLOCKS" AND "NAVIGATION ERROR" WILL MATCH CLOCK ERROR EXACTLY "BEST CASE SCENARIO".
@deeremeyer1749Ай бұрын
"Plug and play" "Interpret" 'Manage" "Parameters" "Out of the box" "Instrument" Sounds so "scientific" from the length of those "extension harnesses". You know. Ten to forty feet. In reality none of it is applicable to those "gauges" and least of all the "digital gauges" you're trying to sell as "high tech" in relation to a dinosaur of a "marine engine" that needs the "data" you mention LAST as an "add-on" - i.e. "EGT" - instantly available to the "driver" MOST. Because those "370 hp" 360 cubic-inch light-duty "MARINIZED" engines can seem "fine" per every other "instrument" and already be "catstrophically failed" ESPECIALLY WITH "RAW WATER COOLING" AND A "COOLING SYSTEM" THAT LOSES ALL EFFECTIVENESS AT "IDLE" FOLLOWING AN "EMERGENCY SHUTDOWN".

They do make ORFS to Metric elbow adapters where you can completely eliminate that banjo fitting you're flexing out of the way and get a hose made slightly longer so the christmas tree of fittings is eliminated. More fittings = more leak potentials. If the metric banjo threads are M14X1.5 then the Adaptall fitting P/N would be 6069-06-14. (if the 90 degree adapter can clear when being threaded in) Any good hose shop can make up USCG approved hoses with ORFS ends. Parker 221FR with 26 series crimp fittings P/N 1JS26-6-6 for the straight end and 1J726-6-6 for the 45 degree end if the hose crimps are 3/8 ORFS size. A hose P/N would be 221FR-JS-J7-6-6-6-X where X=length desired. The hose for this would be all 3/8" hose. What drives the hose size are the metric threads on the pump. Find the thread (M14x1.5 I think) then that drives the rest of the sizes. If the hoses are 1/2" then you'll need to find an adapter that has 1/2 ORFS to M14. Another option is to install a straight ORFS x Metric adapter and have a hose made with a 90 on one side and a 45 on the other. The problem with that is the clocking of the crimp ends would have to be right. It would take test fitting the hose before the hose is crimped then marking the hose and fittings and crimping after fitup. There are a few ways to solve this issue. Seems like you need to invite a good hose shop guy to your location and have this looked at. I used to work at a hose shop where I cleaned up systems like this and it's not hard. Just takes talking to the right people.

That top hose needs to be replaced, much easier
@SeaboardMarineIncVideos2 ай бұрын
Replaced with what? This is a specialty OEM hose. Not theoretically impossible to get made, but not cheap and certainly nothing you can find or order off the shelf. Only a very specialty hydraulic shop could make that hose... Maybe.. And only if they had that crimp on banjo fitting.

@@SeaboardMarineIncVideos If that top hose was rerouted as in replaced with a longer hose say going forward, I would think it would be an easier refit?

Hello Tony, what are your thoughts on paper-element air filters in the marine environment? Keep making your videos
@SeaboardMarineIncVideos2 ай бұрын
We generally replace the paper filters with S&B cleanable filters. The paper filter really doesn't belong in a marine environment.
