This series is so good. Why was the old channel deleted? Also I can't find episode 2. I know I've seen it before and I think it was Tideland.
@DecultureReviews
@DecultureReviews 2 күн бұрын
Yes it was Tideland and it was a pretty good one. The problem was when the old channel went down (Hannah and I are still not sure why but she feels although we have no proof that someone got upset at one or more of the videos and started false flagging them enough to where KZbin canned it. There was nothing we could do about it) so did the video. I thought I made a back up on it on my hard drive but sadly I stupidly didn't. I do intend to make that one again though. It would give me a chance to clarify my points better and do a better job editing it.

The inspiration of the story for House sounds like that story where a bride hid in a chest to scare her groom, the issue was, she was never found alive. She was eventually found, but by that time, she was a skeleton. Also, I know how it feels to be scared, well frightened by a clock. My step-grandparents had a clock, there were times where the clock would make this loud sound when it hit a certain time.

Apparently Osamu Tezuka never saw Fritz Lang's Metropolis. Instead he was inspired by a series of stills promoting Lang's film in a movie magazine.

I've never heard that before. That is possible. It wouldn't surprise me if Rintaro and Katsuhiro Otomo took inspiration from Lang's film more than Tezuka judging from the film itself.

Nice to see video of the work that brought us the Gainax pose! To add to your video a couple of things. The reason I think Coach believe in Noriko was not only because she wanted to go to space real bad, but because someone like her who doesn’t know how to traditionally fight like the others would yield tactics like getting stabbed by the baddy to try it. That’s the moment you see Coach’s glint. Without spoiling Diebuster you can say both are a story where fighting with your all is the key. Also the song when Noriko and Kazumi fight together in their gunbuster for the first time, is a duet with both voice actresses, which is extra rad. Thanks for the vid!

Absolutely hated Coppola's Dracula film. Admittedly, it's closer to Stoker than I originally thought it was, but it is so over the top, and I felt it just comes across as more of a parody than Mel Brooks' Dead and Loving It. Which I also hated. Best Dracula parody is still Love at First Bite. And this is the one time I thought Gary Oldman simply didn't convince. He looks like a clown, and he seemed to me very uncertain in the role. I don't know WHAT Coppola was thinking, but Oldman simply doesn't sell Dracula. Bela Lugosi is more iconic, and Christopher Lee is more believable, even when the movies around them aren't worthy. Not once is Oldman's Dracula truly threatening - he simply looks laughable when he tries. Especially when you compare his performance to Lugosi or Lee, who ALWAYS came across as a genuine threat. What the heck they were doing with that "old man" hairdo in the beginning, I will never know. Oldman looks better once Dracula regains his youth, but I still couldn't take him seriously. And everyone complains about Keanu's accent, but in my opinion, Winona Ryder's isn't any better - and it's even less consistent. At least Keanu is in there trying. Still, we've got a very young Monica Bellucci as one of Dracula's Brides, and this is one of the few adaptations to actually include the character of Quincey Morris. They don't give him much to do, but he's there. So, progress?
@DecultureReviews
@DecultureReviews 11 күн бұрын
I get ya. And you are right Ryder's accent wasn't any better. I suppose a movie like this is one of those cases where you had to grow up with it to keep liking it although I don't know if that would be the case for me. Especially given that I really liked the 1989 Batman as a kid but now as an adult...not so much. Also, just because something is a pretty "faithful" adaptation doesn't mean it will be good. If that's the case then Branagh's Frankenstein should have been incredible (it wasn't).

i really think it's kind of unfair to say one (or two) movies (Ghost in the Shell and Snow White and The Huntsman) from a director (rupert sanders, in this case) is proof that this remake is gonna be garbage. i've SEEN the original, i have the original on 4K, proof enough that i'm absolutely ENTHRALLED about this movie and Brandon's performance. and i've seen the sequels, too (Wicked Prayer is definitely the weakest link out of all them) and i think City of Angels had untapped potential thanks to the... Weinsteins (he said begrudgingly), and Salvation was decent, albeit with flaws.
@DecultureReviews
@DecultureReviews 14 күн бұрын
Well given that neither of his early movies were very good (I did a video on Ghost in the Shell 2017 and it is up on the channel) and given just how the new Crow just looks and feels it is sadly a foregone conclusion that it will be pretty subpar. This has been a track record in Hollywood for most of what they have released especially in the past 15+ years.
@kalide1704
@kalide1704 14 күн бұрын
yeah, but tbh, coming off of Wicked Prayer for myself? this looks LEAGUES better than Edward Furlong in sharpie eyeliner and an outfit you'd see in a Spirit Halloween store lol (and i've seen far worse films, madame web for instance, but god i can't talk about that...)
@DecultureReviews
@DecultureReviews 14 күн бұрын
Well...I suppose anything would be better than Wicked Prayer and yes I can't imagine the new film being worse than Madame Web (not impossible but improbable). But the new film clearly has a bigger budget and more polish and it is going to held up to the 1994 classic and it will be ripped apart fairly or unfairly. I guess I just feel that the new film has no grandeur based on what I have seen. Nothing to inspire awe. It feels modern in a bad way. Too pristine whereas the original had a tactile, oppressive atmosphere. It was just a bad idea to make this movie. One of the best examples of a one-and-done story and no sequels necessary let alone remakes. If there is one area where I can give some credit. They seem to be in some ways trying to do their own thing with it (even if it doesn't look good) whereas with Ghost in the Shell 2017 it wasn't an adaptation of the manga (as stated in the credits) but rather the Mamoru Oshii films which were loosely based on the Manga with smatterings of Stand Alone Complex and the Arise OVA.
@kalide1704
@kalide1704 14 күн бұрын
right, i see. but i feel like it is one of THOSE movies where you need to go into it with an open mind and view it as it's own thing separate from the original as most reboots are.

Since then I got a better microphone. 2. To give some clarification (for those who missed the description), I know I stated in the video that I liked Denis Villeneuve's Dune. Well...I liked the first one for a while but after the release of Part II that has changed. I am no longer a fan. I even stated that Shape of Water was good but I don't think so anymore. Love some of Guillermo del Toro's work (his output is a mixed bag) but that is not one of the good ones. And sadly I don't think his most recent Pinocchio was all that great either.

I need to clarify that I was being sarcastic when I said that Marcus should be allowed to create the perfect society. That I would rather see that movie. I said that because Colin's search for vengeance is so boring and lame that by comparison Marcus was the better character. Also when I state made my points from 17:16-18:11 I should have been clearer. You can keep the beginning of the movie where Colin loses his wife to Marcus and he can spend the next several hundred years looking for vengeance but use a different time and place instead of a church during WWII for Marcus to tell Colin that he's wasting his time. And to have that hammered home by Amergan. Then you can have Colin get adopted by the Macleod clan and there he starts to enjoy life with essentially an adopted family and develop himself mentally. Then Marcus would return to raise hell. This would give Colin an opportunity to get vengeance but also save his new clan as a way to make up for the clan and wife he lost. The story would end bittersweetly as he would be discovered to be immortal and thus would have to leave. I felt that would have been better. Maybe tie it in better with Highlander lore and do away with all that tired post-apocalypse crap. Keep the story in the past. That would have been a cooler setting.

i definitely agree that diebuster doesnt really function amazingly as a direct sequel to gunbuster, but as it's own thing i cant help but love it. considering g gundam and macross 7 are my favorite entries in their respective series, im definitely the target audience for a show like this. maybe it's a bit shallow or childish, but theres something about the sheer absurdity of stuff like nono casually destroying planets that makes my brain go "holy shit this is awesome". i agree with your point on the characters needing to be fleshed out more, and the science talk getting obnoxious though. i definitely think this series biggest detriment comes in trying to be a sequel to a show that remained relatively grounded in nature. diebuster is definitely an acquired taste, and while i understand and respect your opinion, itll always be a series i consider to be a fun romp. i love the visuals, music, enjoy the 2 main characters, and loved the wackiness of the fights. different strokes for different folks i suppose.
