This is great man - nobody has the preinstalled seal+housing anymore - everyone is out of stock except Bimmerworld, who wants nearly $400 for the kit. Decided to do this after ordering a clutch/flywheel kit or my slipping clutch on my E46 M3. Gave me the confidence I needed to just order the seal + gasket :)
Bread and a either a 14 or 15 mm bolt. I had troubles not getting a good enough seal so I bought a bolt that fit tighter. Just keep stuffing it lol

Why not just replace the whole valve while you’re in there??
@MODINDUSTRY7 Жыл бұрын
I did not want to spend $60 for a new valve especially when considering the low mileage on the engine. It's always a good idea to weigh the cost and benefits before making a decision like that and the valve looked okay when I pulled it out just needed a new o-ring. Sometimes, it's worth taking a chance on a more affordable option, especially when it comes to car maintenance. It's all about finding the balance between quality and cost.

Did you do it on the ground? How long did it take you

I did it in the middle of a clutch job but I’m sure you can do it in a Day

@@MODINDUSTRY7 and was it done on the floor?

Hi, i also have an e46 m3 and i can move the drive shaft in the back of the differential a bit, like a centimeter, when the wheels are on ground. Is this normal? Sry for the bad english

Yo if you still have that car, if its the tiniest wiggle you'll be okay, but if you have significant wiggle, clanking when you wiggle it, you would want to look at a new drive shaft at some point.

Do you need to replace anything prior to installation?
@MODINDUSTRY7 Жыл бұрын
Yes, replace the front and rear differential mounts check for leaks from axel shafts and rear pinion shaft , if they are leaking replace the seals replace the fluid .

so many ppl do not know how to work on the drive shaft

Why do you say that ?

Dont forget to add some thread sealant to the two larger bolts at the base of the housing. These are oil passage bolts. Without sealant this bad boy will leak like a mofo. I like to ise Versachem #2 Thread and gasket sealant. Have never had a RMS leak.

I hope mine doesn't leak

@@MODINDUSTRY7 Hopefully not! Check out that product though. I’ve used it extensively. Great stuff for paper gaskets and sealing housing bolts. Have used it on trannies, RMS, water pumps and shifter housings. Never had a leak.
