Beverly's voice was shredded by the time she retired. But in its prime, she electrified the listener with her spectacular coloratura, precision, speed and vocal beauty. Her decline can be traced back to her cancer surgery in late 1974 and her determination to appear onstage despite her surgeon's orders not to. I agree with you, listening to these recordings reminds us that Beverly's voice was once pristine.

Carol & Beverly became very close friends after they did a tv special together. In their respective memoirs, they each devoted a chapter to laud the talent and friendship of one another.

Why do you bother reading such nonsense? It’s always the same queens who worship their chosen goddess, and bash everyone else. IMO, I loved both Sills and Sutherland - and I saw both in the theater many times. Although some of their roles overlapped, they were so completely different in their approach and intent, it’s ridiculous to compare them. When great artists are at the top rung, you know they’re bringing something unique to the table.

Your right, and I saw also them both also many times in opera and concert performances, in fact met Sills when I worked in Classical radio, and first saw Sutherland in Chicago in 1961 singing Lucia at Lyric opera with Richard Tucker, yes I agree it's pointless even reading it.
