This is actually a Swedish tradition for the midsummer festival. The women dance and the men play music and make drinks.

2:36 As a Swede, I can literally understand parts of what the leader is saying. For example, right here I hear the phrase "Nu är det bara åtta kvar", which translates to "now there's only eight left".

speaking gibberish yet understanding each other perfectly captures the fuckiness of being on shrooms. Felt like it triggered a whole flashback the way they executed the weirdness of psychs

When I first watched this, I genuinely thought she was talking swedish at the end and wondered how did she learn it so quickly. I now know enough Norwegian to realise that wasn't Swedish. 😂

It took me a second time to watch this effin awesome film to realise we are watching this film through diff characters perspectives. The music is slower an more distorted from christians perspective, doesnt sound as rythmic or hypotonic as it does through Dani's perspective an rightly so but yeah took me two watches to notice. Apparently this song isnt on the OST? Shame

thing I found surprising was near the end, the actual frank admission by Lana that they cheered 9/11 in the West Bank...that 'they hate us"...usually this is a reality that the Left/Woke tried to deny even happened. Even though, yeah, it did happen.

I'm not really seeing how this movie is scary. "omg it's a.....LE CULT!" An embellished horror-esque twist on ancient pagan ceremonies are scary to people?

Its a symbolic representation on mega cults like islam, how they lull vulnerable people into believing and advocating some insane inhumane shit, they come as exotic, spiritual and provide comfort and slowly make you accept the horrific shit that go behind the curtains,

I think what people keep missing in this movie is the trauma and horror that Dani has already experienced up until the trip. Horror is inevitable no matter where you go and she’d rather have a family that loves her than experience further trauma of being with someone who does not love and see her. It was more frightening to be with Christian. I’d rather be with Pelle and deal with some occasional weird shit

In the old times, young women wanted to be impregnated, danced at a place near me, called the place Frö-berget. the small hill of Freyir and his Wife Frö. One can imagine what people did at that hill. Certainly not grilling sausages.

I love that this is the first scene in the movie where Dani really smiles. Before this scene, she would smile, but very weakly and only to be polite. This is the first time in the movie where she actually smiles out of joy.

You can! Midsummer festivals almost exactly like the movie (minus the drugs, rape and death) take place every year in rural areas of plenty of European countries like Sweden, maypole dance included.

Could have been a masterpiece but didn't quite make it. There are stunning scenes, acting and story are first class, but to me it feels as if each time the film is just about to fly it gets smacked back on the ground. Nevertheless I've seen it about 20 times. Rino and Cassel as two very different cops who are forced to work together in order to solve the case are outstanding. And of course Ms Fares. For me by far the hottest actress. Through "Crimson Rivers" i came to watch "The Hornet's Nest" also with Fares and in that film she's even more adorable. If she had been my French teacher I would have learned the bloody language in no time.
