Man, you have to get some real acceleration to go uphill for that bit and still have speed left to go over the stair

Shallow stair lines can be some of the most challenging and trickiest to get! This set at Hojo was one of the biggest sets ever done at the time. They were tucked away in a really tough spot with almost no transition coming in or going out. Generally speaking, pools with doable shallow stairs are very rare to come across. When you find one, keep chipping away until you find a line and then make it happen! Get some pushes in if you have to and record it!! It does not seem possible at times, but somehow it works…

Some lucky skaters got a chance to many years ago and did a Thrasher Mag article on it. Would love to get a crack at that someday. I grew up in the area. There used to be an old skate shop in the late 1980s next door where I got the Schmitt Stix John Lucero Peace Sign deck for Christmas 1987/88. It’s got the perfect setup for an old school carving session, really good surface and big enough of an area for a great time! Awesome idea thanks for reminding me! I think know the guy who put that session together, will need to inquire about that and see what the chances are. I’m a huge fan of the business everyone takes their kids here for batting practice.

Mid section over the foot treds was a go? Pocket with latter steps?
@tobyburger
@tobyburger 24 күн бұрын
Only doable from one direction, had almost nothing to come in on, scrapping the nose pretty hard coming out of it, but the curve of that bowled section was good enough to get you there. Always a challenge to get and oddly satisfying every time. It was basically a tall shallow section with steps. Some of the HOJO videos show us going toe to toe for this. We had two things to get every time: frontside grind over facewall light and frontside grind over those semi mid wall steps…(we literally had to do it before skating the rest of the pool, if you didn’t make it you didn’t skate it, that was Salba’s rule)

Get some waves for me brother!!! What are you riding? Shortboard, fish, mid length, log? What’s your fin setup? I love single fin mid lengths, fishes & longboards, but will ride anything. Lots of stumpy quads that I don’t take out much. My 9’ Dennis Choate with glassed on tri fins is a fun glider…

Lucky man, I should be interviewing you! Email me your contact if you want to talk about it and nerd out on pool skating history. Lincoln Nass was the top dawg in Fresno. One of the best pool skaters ever. Nobody did it the way he did. Ever ride the pool he had at their apartments? That was a fun one, hopefully I got video of it somewhere. Thanks for mentioning, people need to know this. Hope Lincoln is doing well, have you heard anything about him?

It was challenging every time definitely worth celebrating. Plus we’re skating basically in the dark. We weren’t even sure we’d get to ride it again (could be the last session) so it was important to go all in and leave nothing on the table… Everything he said at the beginning of the video is true. It was a crapshoot at best and luckily it paid off and we are now enjoying the fruits of that labor. Fuck yeah🤘

Most people will never know what that level of dedication, hard work and ingenuity feels like. Or the pay out on the back end of a successful mission. Good times. A little messy at times, but definitely a character building endeavor. Hilarious we're still talking about it 20 years later!!!
