Raised in NY and went to HANC and Hillel Yeshivat. I made this change 26 years ago and had a very similar background and experience except that I was not a Shul Rav. I made this change, went for semicha while working at the NIH. After passing my semicha examination, I went before Chacham Ovadia Yosef for a beracha. He was made aware of my background and upbringing. After asking me what I planned to do next, he instructed me to keep and promote the kashrut standard of Beit Yosef (meat). For 10 years I helped lead our Sephardic minyan.

Unfortunately, the sound was not working for the first 15/20 minutes.
