This happened to us with our pond,got up one morning saw the telltale signs,fish scales on side of pond,sent for a black netting slightly bigger than pond got some large plastic pegs to hold net tight over pond,great stuff no more missing fish,fish swimming on too of water not hiding anymore and no more worries for us,result,👍🏴

Blue heron ate a few of my fish too so now my pond is covered by a black net. It's not as natural to have a net but black colored net is not as obvious and I never lost a fish again.

Amazing footage! That looks like a huge/colorful fish the hungry Heron caught and swallowed (an older koi? Hopefully you didn’t already name the pet 😢) here! The fish seemed to be resisting and not too happy to stare down the bird’s throat! 😧🐟😅 I wonder, can the fish stand a chance of escaping (you can see it’s tail desperately flapping about!) the elastic neck/stomach if eaten in that condition?? It’s so big, maybe it can still survive.

Has anyone tried fishing line around the perimeter of your pond? Nets are just so ugly in my opinion.

Oh I’m so sad!! Had my fish for 2 years, never saw a heron once! My fish were happy and fat. 21 of them!! Last few days, noticed they were hiding and it seemed like I could barely see them which didn’t make sense since I had so many. I thought maybe my dog had ‘traumatized’ them bc her ball landed in the pond recently a couple of times. Then; yesterday, I SAW IT and I gasped and realized in that moment what has happened! I threw the net over the pond right away and scared off this predator!! Tried really counting my fish. I only see 6. 🥺😩 Showed up again this morning! Sent the dog out and away it flew.

Best not to have hatred for wild animals, even if they’re stealing your fish. They don’t know any better and as far as they see it fish are important food which isn’t really easy to get when you’re a bird.

@@theworthysoul Have you never realised speech is often exaggerated for dramatic effect? I know herons eat fish too but if I want to hate on them when they steal my beautiful koi then I will thank you very much.

So sad poor Fish add a net and make it domes like a Tent and put lili pads so they can hide under Poor Fish I love my Fish and do everything to protect them. Once this Bird knows your Pond it’s going to continue to come and eat all your Fish!

@@This_tub it’s a wild animal, it doesn’t know any better and can’t tell the difference between wild and domestic fish. Rather than have hatred for it, just set up good defences.

Probably the same one that has gotten my fish! It hangs out at the Franklin Reservoir! I laid trellis over my pond which works perfectly. So far. I think trellis looks better than fishing line or net and I can easily remove.

Millions of years of evolution made them incredible at fishing. I have been dealing with them for years. Each year I try something new. They also seem to eat my fish mostly in the fall.

@@elaine1743 I pity you because I was myself in these problems. I now have a pond of 500,000 liters so that the fish can save themselves. I also have duckweed which allows the fish to hide but it's not very pretty. with all this i pray God to keep the birds away from my fish
