why take it right to the post on such a true classic record---most of us love the non vocal lead ups of all those songs so zip it now and then just take a few breaths girl/

I listened to Chris in the 70's when he was the 3pm to 7pm jock at KAFY. Loved it when he would blast the Raspberries 'Go All The Way' to start the show. One of the all time best d DJ's!

You stay classy San Diego, I’m Ron Burgundy? From anchorman, the legend of Ron Burgundy… What is now KGTV was originally KFSD-TV, signing on in 1953 on Channel 10, as the second station to sign on in San Diego proper, but the third station to sign on in the market (XETV in Tijuana signed on earlier in 1953). Originally, the station was affiliated with NBC. The call letters came from the radio station of the same name, which was First in San Diego. Those letters lasted up to 1960, when the stations were purchased by Time-Life Television, who slapped the new callsign of KOGO-TV (said as ko-go) (KOastal GO is my best guess at the meaning of the letters, which were chosen by an IBM Computer). By 1970, the station would fall under McGraw hill ownership, who sold off the radio stations and slapped on the present day callsign of KGTV. In 1971 KCST-TV 39 signed on the air as an independent station, but raised a challenge to the fact of XETV being the ABC affiliate. The people at channel 39 complained that since San Diego now had 3 commercial stations, there was no need for a nearby Tijuana station to air the ABC network. Channel 39 got the affiliation in 1973. By the latter half of the decade, ABC soared into first place in the ratings, while NBC Dropped to third. ABC wanted to get out of the forced UHF situation in San Diego as a result of this, and elected to affiliate with KGTV In 1976, with the affiliation taking effect in 1977. The station is an ABC Affiliate to this day. KCSD got the NBC network, and, eventually got the KNSD callsign in the late 1980s. NBC actually would acquire the station in 1996, after they were sold off in the New World communications deals with News Corp (FOX). FOX excluded channel 39 since they already had a VHF in San Diego, XETV. NBC also picked up WVTM in Alabama, thanks to FOX already getting their hands on a VHF station in Birmingham earlier on in 1994, when the new world/FOX partnership was founded. (WBRC, the station New world purchased earlier in May 1994, was actually sold off to the FOX network, but was placed in a trust until everything with Citicasters, (who had their sale with. new world finalized before they could talk about the Argyle deal)). After all the legal drama was settled in 1996, KNSD and WVTM became NBC O/O stations. While WVTM has been sold off by NBC, and later to Hearst since then, KNSD has been owned set by NBC ever since. Channel 8, KFMB, has always been a CBS affiliate since day one, in 1949.

I was from NYC and in the 70s we would cherish tapes we could get of KCBQ. My boss in 1972 at WNHC was Q alum the late Chris Bailey. At WAVZ we were blessed to have a TM shotgun jingle.😊

No knock on contemporary announcers, but this whole paradigm they fulfilled is not as prominent. Fewer film trailers have narrations, and fewer people watch linear television where promos that had these narrations were airing.
