As someone who watched the original series as a child, I liked everything about this video which captured the spirit of the original end credits. The vocals were excellent and the CGI must have taken weeks to create.

Thanks Brian. Yes, it was definitely a labour of love both from my side with the music, and from Chris’ side with the animation. Unfortunately, KZbin technology back then wasn’t too kind to the video or audio quality, as both were originally quite a lot better.

I've always loved this song. This version is awesome. I still love the original. But this one is excellent as well. Great guitar work and vocals. Starts of kind of sluggish, but once it picks up steam it really rocks. If I were to do a cover version of this song, it would be a lot like this version.

A fan of the 1962/3 series as a little boy, yes, there are few of us still alive. Hi Ken, this was great, I must say I prefer Chris Thompson`s animation with a version of the original tune. This was the 1st Supermarionation Series I saw from the 1st episode all the way through & I loved it. Robbie the robot was my favourite, it was amazing to find out in recent times that Gerry himself did his voice. :)) If you do not mind, I will add to my page. :)

I was three when this was on the air. I really loved the ship taking off at the beginning, and of course this (end) song. But I remember being REALLY pissed that instead of people zooming through space, it was friggin' PUPPETS. I was three.

joynthis Haha! I remember just wanting to be a puppet! Sort of a reverse Pinocchio syndrome! Still one of my fondest childhood TV memories to this day though, although I have no idea how I can remember it, as I was about 1, I think!

I'm five years late to this party, but I'm going nuts over this vid by Chris Thompson! Those Trek-like ships he added in the middle scenes, I was only four when XL5 came to our miserable 15-inch screen, but later when Star Trek came along (20 inch B&W TV) I always, but kept it to myself, that along with Forbidden Planet, this was the precursor to Trek. That even Zefram Cochrane [the version played by Glenn Corbett, not Babe's Farmer] when old, took a ship much like XL5 on that last voyage of his. Afterall, don't those wing extrusions on the aft section of XL5 look like they could be warp engine nacelles? Right at 00:27 you have a couple in VTOL that look like they came off of William "Matt" Jeffries' sketchpad. :-)

Thanks Richard. Couldn't agree more - Chris' work is outstanding, and when I saw it, I had to have it for the song - with his approval, of course! You're right too about the sci-fi evolution.
