There were some good things about the time but people were dying at a higher rate, and younger, including kids. Most people didn't have air conditioning yet, and you couldn't get a lot of food out of season.

when Ty Cobb was 78 years old he was asked if he was playing today what his average would be ? ty was known for bragging and answered "around 280" the reporter said "geez ty i would have expected you to say much higher" and ty said " what do you expect,? i'm 78 for crying out loud"!

Typical Jack Benny! Thecway he argues with everyone about everything is classic! FYI- this isn't an actual YBYL ajow, the ones who appear with groucho are all actors. I hsve seem tge "doctor" in several other shows. The couple is probably a random married couple or evrn actors themselves.

I never realized how good of an actor Rochester was but I should have bc Jack Benny surrounded himself with talented people. I can’t think of the guy playing the sailor but I’ve seen him in movies. I looked him up. Don Durant and he played in the short lived series Johnny Ringo

Who died and made you dictator of television programs? "should have been"...who in h e double hockey sticks, do you think you are, to dictate what should be? If you were in charge of the world, the population would drop, from mass suicide, to 5%. You are just a mindless rump.

The use of Eddie Anderson as Rochester wasn't demeaning at all, but was rather uplifting for him and others. They showed that we're all just people. And they made fun of the stereotypes of bosses and servants, while helping to equalize things in America.

13:55 -- Phil Spitalny (November 7, 1890 - October 11, 1970) was a Russian Empire-born American musician, music critic, composer, and bandleader heard often on radio during the 1930s and 1940s. He rose to fame after he led an all-female orchestra, a novelty at the time.
