commercially, the A340 was not a success. only 375 planes were sold, whereas its sister, the twin engine A330, was sold over 1500 times and is still in production in 2023. But the A340 has the chance to make history. 90 percent of the A340‘s are already retired, and up to date, there had been no fatalities yet. When Lufthansa will have replaced their A340 fleet by younger 350‘s in a few years, the A340 may end up as first widebody aeroplane with zero fatalities over its entire lifetime. a triumph from the scrapyard. ;)

I know it's easier for the airline to manage the situation on its hub (maintenance, moving passengers on another aircraft ecc), but wouldn't it be better to chose an airport with a dry runway to land?
