Because, whether you personally like them or not, Kurt Cobain and Nirvana are still one of the best selling and most written about bands of the last 30 years. Newer generations of young people continue to get into their music, and virtually anything that Kurt Cobain touched while he was alive sells at auctions for ridiculous sums of money. That only happens with generation-defining, iconic artists.

Not like kurt cobain created a unique, original sound unlike the regurgitated garbage that was hair metal. And 70s rock for that matter. Nirvana created a sound that was unique and still is unique to them. There will never be another nirvana
