So glad for this video to be what makes me realise it's a tourist attraction and has a viewing deck. Been up grouse twice and had no idea it was a toruist trap. Lets continue not talking about it so they don't profit from their lied

I would like to know who and how the 1.5 megawatt number was determined and verified and approved. Was this maximum output for the generator when running? That would be roughly equivalent to a 2000 hp internal combustion engine driven generator. That's pretty impressive for a windmill. Or was that the energy produced over a period of time, a day, a week, a month, a year, ten years, the expected life of the windmill? It would be great if that was clarified.

You make corporate sleaze fun again!!! What an entertaining video, you have a huge talent for this! Along similar lines, you should lift the lid on the 2010 Hydrogen bus, the promises to build an onsite electrolyser in Whistler and how none of it came to pass and they ended up trucking the hydrogen across Canada from Montreal, it perfectly fits with the eco dreams gone wrong theme of this video.

Wind turbines use more resources and energy just to produce them, then they can generate in their lifetime of use.

The only reason it is not in use is the control BC Hydro has over the use of other means of power that would reside in private hands returning extra power to the grid.

Has it even paid off the carbon footprint to build it? Turn it into a zip line and bungee jump and sled ride to the bottom. Those will recoup the losses and not kill any birds.

That eyesore should be removed and not by taxpayers. It stands as the perfect symbol of the corruption that the olympics really are. It’s not a symbol of Green. It’s the opposite. Even though it’s totally useless I’m sure that there is government money flowing into it somehow.

Exactly what carbon was it meant to offset? Vancouver's electricity is generated from water, not fossil fuels (not withstanding the garbage burner, which the province opted to turn on). BC has the cleanest electricity possible - the last thing we need are impossible-to-recycle wind turbines.

Whether or not you believe in man made global warming 🙄 you have to admit that solar and wind are the most polluting and inefficient ways to generate electricity.

Jon Ferry is more accurate than climate science then. I knew the guys that built this, all the electronics didn't have CSA certification, that's why BC Hydro didn't want it connected to the grid.

Interesting video. You should look to see if the turbine owners are selling carbon credits. It is my understanding that even a non operation wind turbine can collect carbon credits for having capacity connected to the grid, even if they do not generate electricity for sale. It makes sense. Cap and trade requires companies to buy CO2 credits if they generate CO2. To make the plan work, there have to be buyers.

I'm an ex wind tech. Very dangerous to be up tower when operating! Scary as heck! Nobody is offering tours of running turbines, ANYWHERE! If elevator has failed, then likely a major component like Gen or gearbox or YAW DRIVE! Ya need a crew to maintain and repair and CRANES are almost always needed! I worked Palm Springs on older (v-39) units and they take a lot of working to keep running.
