Bach was a genius, but so was Busoni! Beautifully played. The grand piano has a wonderful sound!

This is all the more moving for its reticence and dignity. It is clear-eyed, with great art and no artifice. I've loved Claudius Tanski's playing for several years and have come to value the man as much as I do his music-making. A treasure!

Thank you so much for sharing that. It's been about 40 yeas since I studied this piece. I left off my studies on this subject with the question "How does the Pythagorean math fit in?" and I could see it, but I've lost my notes. I remember imagining that you could continue forever with that math factored in. I love your idea of his name being factored in. That's a beautiful theory. Also, I believe Bach got tired, limped to bed thinking he had done enough with his life, and went to sleep. I don't believe he fell into the piano and died that way. That's just one man's opinion. God bless you, brother. I'm sure we will all know the truth of it sooner than later, and I'm excited about that. Merry Christmas!

Almost naïve, with a bittersweet, fatalistic undercurrent. The pulse infused into every subdivision of the inner voices. For a moment, I thought "too much pedal" but now I find it a breath of fresh air. Herr Tanski, you have made this piece come alive. Thank you!

Did you know Bach wrote this piece because he was testing out a new organ? I mean the guy literally wrote a masterpiece while tuning a keyboard. What other level genius is this?

E. Bach in unlauterer Absicht handelte.

You, Sir, are a fantastic artist! For me this is one of the timeless recordings of this work, as far as I am concerned you have performed it to perfection. And it's such a treat to be able to follow Liszt's manuscript. Thank you for sharing your and Liszt's music with us. I can't believe I have not come across your playing before - and it's all thanks to Henle's blog.

Excellent performance and especially pleased to follow your handwritten notes. Is it any wonder that Chopin could not make head or tails of the late sonatas?
