Wow that's a really touching story. I'm glad you found meaning in your life. For most people, meaning is never something they ever get to experience which is just sad. It shouldn't take nearly dying to realize that we live without thinking and often carry on with our lives on autopilot and never crave anything more than routine. Meaning comes to us in many ways. Whether it be through religion, friends, family, careers, physical health and fitness, art, or something else. We all deserve to have something meaningful in our lives.
